FAITH HEALING TODAY (II)
More about Kathryn Kuhlman today. It is not disputed that many have been relieved from functional disorders through her ministry, and possibly some organic diseases may also have been cured. These in themselves do not prove that Miss Kuhlman’s ministry was of the Holy Spirit. Even cures of organic diseases can be counterfeited by Satan, the father of lies and deception.
Our Lord forewarned against those who claim, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?” (Matt 7:22). To these, our Lord will say, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matt 7:23).
You ask, “But do these drastic pronouncements apply to Miss Kuhlman? Did she not do many wonderful works?” The answer is, Yes, indeed! And that is just what Jesus cautioned against. Not those who did “wonderful works” or those who say, “Lord, Lord” shall enter into the Kingdom of heaven, “but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matt 7:21).
Listen to our Lord’s words: “Beware of false prophets… Ye shall know them by their fruits … every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit” (Matt 7:15-18). Kathryn Kuhlman’s life must be examined in the light of our Lord’s words. On stage she was an angelic evangelist. Off stage it was another story. Another evangelist divorced his wife to marry her and then in turn divorced from her. Tree and fruit did not match.
Was Kathryn Kuhlman a servant of God, a minister of the true Gospel? In 1972 after her private audience with the pope she said, “When I met Pope Paul there was a oneness.” These few words speak volumes about her loyalty to the Lord. Can one who is “one with the antichrist” also be “one with Christ”?
THOUGHT: False prophets abound.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to discern the wolves in sheep’s clothing.
