"Finishing Well in The Kingdom of God"

Many believers began well but did not finish well. Will you finish well?

Every babe in Christ is supposed to end well as he grows in the grace and knowledge of Christ Jesus, his Lord. Sadly, the reality is that many did not. One possible reason is ignorance: they did not know enough of the Holy Scriptures. Another more common reason is pride in life. When believers mature, they gain a reputation for serving the Lord. They are given earthly titles, and they drink in the accolades of men. When they sin later in life, they find it hard to repent as they think highly of themselves through the praises of men. They struggle to give up this high honour they think they have in the eyes of their followers. The longer they regard iniquity in their hearts, the harder it is for them to repent. King Asa began well but finished miserably. He did not repent. 2 Chronicles 16:12 “And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.”

"What is the Kingdom of Heaven?"

The Kingdom of Heaven or the Kingdom of God refers to the same Kingdom. It is the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, where He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. As strangers and sojourners passing through this world on our way to Christ’s Kingdom, we must understand what the Kingdom of God is. This Kingdom is every believer’s eternal home. God has revealed our eternal home to encourage us to fight the good fight of faith today and to not flinch in the face of the devil’s onslaught.

Knowing who will enter and what the constituents of the Kingdom of heaven are will strengthen our resolve to keep our eyes away from the seductive powers and glitter of this transient earth that must look more and more like fools’ gold; which is not the gold God will use for His streets in the New Jerusalem, the capital city of His eternal Kingdom. At the same time, God desires His children to embrace the enormous impact of what Christ’s death on the cross has accomplished. The first Adam plunged humanity into sin and lost the perfect earth. The second Adam, Jesus Christ, attained for us the eternal new heaven and new earth when He delivered us from the bondage of sin and removed from our eternity the damnation of hell and, ultimately, the Lake of Fire!

We pray that this third quarter of the SGH series will help God’s children keep their eyes fixed on Christ and not be seduced by earthly attractions. Their new heavenly home awaits. May they live for Christ in holiness and righteousness, according to the Scriptures. Amen.

"The Reality of The Resurrection!"

The doctrine of the resurrection is arguably the best way to comfort a believer’s heart in every life circumstance. He sees the glorious end of his life as he struggles daily to live for Christ in holiness. In woe or weal, sickness or health, he labours with renewed zeal and fervency, looking for the day of his arrival home in glory. The doctrine of the resurrection is a glorious hope of the culmination of Christ’ incomparable work at Calvary for all believers. Without the resurrection, the Christian life is worthless and meaningless. But with the resurrection, the Christian life is glorious, even in the face of persecution and death! All believers are encouraged like Paul, who wrote,“And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” (Romans 8:18-19) Amen.

"Kingdom of Heaven Parables"

Parables belong to a particular category of Christian literature. They describe the day-to-day life in Jesus’ time. Jesus used them to teach spiritual truths. In the first quarter of 2025, God willing, we shall endeavour to understand parables that begin with the phrase “the kingdom of heaven”.

We must understand the meaning of the kingdom of heaven from Jesus Christ, who came from heaven and is also the King of the kingdom of heaven. There is no one better to teach us.

Are you already in the kingdom of heaven? Are you hoping to enter into the kingdom of heaven one day? May God use this series of messages to help you find the truth about the kingdom of heaven, whether it is to be entered today or in the future. Amen.

"Faith or Fear?"

The last days are upon us. The world will decline from bad to worse. There is no reprieve. Climate change is a warning of impending total extinction. Are you not afraid that the world will undoubtedly come to an inevitable end?

Fear is part of man's existence. He lives in fear till he dies. All men should be afraid of death. What awaits after death and hell, a place of great pain and unimaginable torment without relief or escape for all who die in sin! The holy and righteous God awaits every person, holding him accountable for the life he has lived.

The first quarter of 2024 will focus on some of these fears in man's life.

God has shown man His way to help him deal with fears. Once man learns from God the right way, he will no longer be afraid of anything. Let God help you to overcome your fears.

"Names of God!"

It is difficult to trust someone whom you do not know or do not know well. When a believer accepts Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour, he may know only the gospel of Jesus Christ. The depth of the gospel is not known until after salvation when the believer attends church and studies the Bible. With time and years of Christian experiences he begins to know God better.

But this journey of knowing God better begins with knowing God through His introduction of Himself to us in Holy Scriptures. Once God is known better, it is easier to trust Him. The fears in life will be dealt with through the Word of God, and entirely overcome by trusting in God’s help and almighty intervention. This series of messages on the Names of God are meant to help every believer in their daily walk with God. Knowing Him will help all believers overcome all fears and remain faithful in holiness till Christ’s glorious return. Amen.

"The Fear of the LORD" (Book of Proverbs)

Man has many fears. Many of such fears are irrational that have gripped and transformed lives. The fear of heights results in living closer to the ground floor; the fear of flying results in no air travel. Such fears harm our earthly temporal life but not the eternal. One fear, or rather the lack of it, will eternally ruin our life. A man can find himself in hell after death if he does not have the right fear within him.

The fear that delivers a sinner out of hell is the Fear of the LORD!

God willing, we shall endeavour to understand the Fear of the LORD from the Book of Proverbs for three months. The Book of Proverbs is a Book of wisdom God gave to His people to help them to live a holy life. It is a Book about the evidence of salvation. It is not that by obeying this Book and behaving rightly a man can earn salvation. According to the Book of Proverbs, a man who is born again will obey rightly.

May this series of messages on the Fear of the LORD bless your heart and help you live a holy life and be a more holy witness for Christ. Amen.

"The Love of God"

God’s love is a phrase many professing believers use, especially concerning salvation. We most frequently share about God’s love concerning Christ’s death and resurrection on the cross. God’s love is part of the gospel message. However, telling others about God’s love, even in the context of sharing the gospel, does not necessarily mean we know or experience God’s love in our lives.

How important is the experience of God’s love in our lives?

The Bible verses in this series show that it is crucial to our salvation. The absence of God’s love in our hearts or the lack of expressing God’s love to others is evidence of no salvation. God wants us to possess His love and show it in all our relationships! This current series of messages will focus on God’s loving desire for all to know how much He loves sinners and saints.

"Be Godly: Single or Married"

Society seems to think that it is not good to be single. Getting married appears to be the general norm. If one is not married, he feels the silent pressure to find a life partner. Websites and other avenues of finding a spouse are 21st-century approaches to solving the singlehood problem. They promote the blessings of marriage that include having companionship and a family; problems are halved; joys are doubled; the richness of family life is amazing; one has to be married to experience it.

But we know that the reality is not so idyllic. Divorce is on the rise, and Christians are not immune to the plague of divorce. Marriage brings many problems that a single person does not have. Some who are married might wish they are single again, even as the single wish to be married. A single person will also have blessings and problems in life. One of the problems is loneliness. One of the blessings is the freedom to do what he likes without the consideration of married life responsibilities.

The issue of being single or married is always a concern. “The grass is greener on the other side” perspective controls the heart at times.

A biblical perspective on this crucial issue is long overdue. It is my prayer for all believers, whether you are single or married, that you will seek to be godly which will help you to live holy lives for Christ, especially in these last days.

"Who Is A Christian? (Part 1)"

The Bible says that in the last days before Christ’s return, Christianity will fall away ie become apostate. It has fallen away because we are living in the last days. This means that there are now more professing Christians than truly born again Christians. We live in very perilous times. The false gospels are prevalent. Many in the hundreds of millions today think that they are going to heaven when in reality they are still bound for hell. They do not know it. They think that they are Christians because they call on the Name of Jesus Christ in worship and prayer. They think that they are Christians because they attend church faithfully, give of their tithes regularly, have been baptised and partake of the Lord’s Supper. The participation in these things do not make us a Christian, even if we can do all of them perfectly. Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone. This means that the gospel we believe in has to be according to Holy Scriptures, otherwise our belief is in vain and we are still in our sin. The one who is truly born again in Christ will evidence a spiritual transformation that can be known now!

In this series we shall study the Sermon on the Mount. It is the perfect message preached by the Lord God and Saviour Jesus Christ. This sermon summarises the journey of a truly born again believer from the beginning of his salvation to the end of his earthly life. These earthly experiences must be real in every believer’s heart. “Who is a Christian?” (Part One) will deal with true salvation and its immediate impact in the believer in relation to God’s Word and God Himself. The true believer will experience new relationships that he did not have before; but after salvation he cannot do without them. Isn’t it needful that we check whether we have experienced them? Amen.

"Church Attendance - A Blessing or a Curse?"

Church attendance for a sinner not born again is usually good because the person is exposed to God's Word and experiences the fellowship of believers. A taste of heaven (albeit imperfect) would be a direct blessing. Hopefully, he will come to know Christ as his Lord and Saviour.

However, if the church he attends is bad, he is in dire circumstances. A bad church does not teach the Word of God and lies to sinners that they are born again in Christ when they are not. The sinner will receive the greatest shock of his life when he finds himself cast into hell, having believed with all his heart while he was on earth that he was going to heaven!

Christianity turning apostate is one of the signs of the last days. There are more professing believers than true believers today. In light of this, church attendance can be a blessing or a curse!

"Omniscience, Omnipresence, Omnipotence!"

“Omni” means “all”. “Omniscience” means “all knowledge”. “Omnipresent” means “all present”. “Omnipotent” means “all powerful”. These are the immutable divine attributes of God, the God of the Bible. He revealed these attributes about Himself to mankind. Mankind cannot originate these amazing doctrines. All the “gods” of sinful man are localized and limited in power. The god of the mountain controls only the mountains. The god of the sea controls only the oceans. They help fishermen but are unable to help mountaineers. These limitations are a reflection of man himself. Man is bound by space and time and so are the gods they created.

But the God of the Bible reveals Himself to us that He is all powerful, all knowing and all present. There is nothing hid from Him. There is nothing that He cannot do. There is nothing that God does not know. He transcends time and thus He is able to tell the future perfectly. He not only tells us the future, He controls the future as well, being the all powerful God that He is! He does not gain or lose knowledge. He knows all things all at the same time.

The issue for believers is not the knowledge of these doctrines but how these doctrines impact our lives. This has escaped many believers. These are doctrines that are divorced from many believers’ reality. They can be recited and defined but cannot be felt and experienced. This series of messages hopes to deal with the application and impact of these doctrines in every believer’s daily life. May God’s people be blessed and God be glorified. Amen.

The Antichrist and his kingdom!

We are living in the last days and there is no better time than now, in the midst of the pandemic and unrest in Europe because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, for God’s people to study the marks of the Antichrist and his global kingdom. The time of the end is nearer than we think. Almost all the signs before the return of Christ have been fulfilled. The gospel being preached all over the world is fulfilled. Great signs and wonders by false prophets and false Christs have been fulfilled in the form of the Charismatic Movement that calls herself the Signs and Wonders Movement. Christianity falling away began officially in 1948 at the birth of the World Council of Churches which signalled the beginning of the Ecumenical Movement which is the seed of the harlot church of Revelation. Now the turbulence in Europe. It will be the prelude of the resurrection of the once great Roman Empire. The material of the kingdom of the Antichrist is made of iron and clay just as the Roman Empire was made of iron.

The present generation lives in very momentous times. The global affairs will culminate in the rise of the mighty and powerful Antichrist who will rule the world. He will make himself the king of kings and lord of lords, imitating Christ in every way. The God of the Bible has prophesied of this final ruler of mankind to prepare His people for Christ’s coming. It is certain. No man can stop the Antichrist. Will God’s people who live in the midst of this prophecy hear and heed His warning? If they do not, no one will! May God’s prophecies not fall on deaf ears and hardened hearts. May God’s people hear and be ready in holiness for Christ’s imminent return. Amen.

Christ and His Kingdom

Kingdoms come and go because their kings die one after the other. Regardless of their might, power and brilliance, death removes all kings. New dynasties are formed when old dynasties are replaced. This holds true of all the kingdoms of men including the mightiest kingdom of man, the kingdom of the Antichrist that is energised by the devil.

But the kingdom of Jesus Christ is the kingdom of the King of kings and Lord of lords whose King never dies! He neither diminishes in power nor might and needs no successor. He lives and reigns forever. There is no need for a replacement dynasty for He rules the new heaven and new earth without end. It will be a holy and perfect kingdom where only the perfect and holy may reign with Him. Will you reign with Him when the day of Christ’s reign begins?

This new series will focus on Christ and His glorious eternal kingdom. May you be blessed by God through these messages from God’s Holy Word and become part of His kingdom. Amen.

Dissecting the Charismatic Movement

The 20th Century was a century when most of the end-time movements were born. Neo-evangelicalism was born in 1948 when the founded declared openly that he was no longer a fundamentalist but a neo-evangelical who rejects the doctrines of biblical separation and embraces infiltration. 1948 was also the year when the Ecumenical Movement was born in the form of the World Council of Churches. These movements would not have succeeded without the Charismatic Movement. The Charismatic Movement began at the turn of the 20th Century. Since that day, it has taken the Protestant world by storm in the literal sense of the word! It has morphed and grown and changed the face of Protestantism in an unimaginable way. Before the birth of Charismatism, Protestantism was divided and separated into mainline denominations like Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Anglican, Presbyterian, etc. Today these have all merged into one. The existing denominations are like the Charismatic churches in worship, teaching, heart and soul except in name. The Charismatic Movement needs to be dissected based upon God’s holy Word!

"Know the Judges!"

“Every man did what was right in his own eyes” was the phrase that God used to characterize the period of Judges that lasted more than three hundred and fifty years. But this is the phrase that characterizes the world since the fall of man. Yet it was a rebuke against God’s people because they had the Word of God and ought to have done what was right in the eyes of the LORD; but they did not! They gave up on God, but God did not give up on them. They were the people of God in the Old Testament, Israel!

We are living in a period similar to that of Judges. We are the people of God in the New Testament. We have much to learn from God through how He raised up and used the judges in times past to help His people, so that the church today can be delivered from her many sins against her LORD! The sins committed in churches today include idolatry, broken families and breaking of vows. MAY WE ALL BE BLESSED BY THE LORD THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE JUDGES!

"Know the Prophets!"

Prophets are spokesmen of God. False prophets are spokesmen of the devil. These prophets co-exist throughout the history of the Bible and the church. True prophets preach against sin and prophesy future events, the latter of which is easier for the false prophets to duplicate. False prophets pander to the whims and itching ears of sinners. They are bought by money and are influenced and controlled by rich and powerful men and women. They still exist today.

On the other hand, true prophets are men of integrity and courage, albeit they have their weaknesses. They make mistakes like everyone else but what makes them different is their devotion to the Lord by never adding or subtracting to the Word of God. Not all prophets tell the future or do miracles. Prophets like Elijah and Elisha were used by the LORD to do miracles in an age and time of great confusion. Israel, the northern kingdom, worshipped both the LORD and Baal at the same time. The distinction between the LORD and Baal was lost because the Israelites called the name of the LORD in front of the golden calves and bowed to these idols. The true meaning of the name of the LORD was lost in the midst of this confusion. Elijah and Elisha were sent to reveal the truth and make a difference so that the LORD’s name would stay true to Holy Scriptures. The church today is in the same state of confusion where the Name of Jesus Christ is lost by the carnality spewing out from apostate Christianity. May God help us to see the truth through the study of these prophets and their lives and ministries. Amen.

"Know the False Prophets!"

From the beginning of the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden, God had already forewarned all believers that there will forever be enmity between the followers of Christ and the followers of the Serpent. This has not changed. In fact it has intensified exponentially. When God sent His prophets to steer His people Israel back to the path of righteousness, the Devil sent his false prophets to confuse and stop them. These false prophets outnumber the prophets of God many times over. “Majority wins” seems to the name of the devil’s game. They infiltrated into the heart of Israel at the very top of the leadership. They stood next to kings and spewed out their lies and deceptions, cloaked in the garb of “wise counsel” against the often lone voices of the true prophets of God. Their target is often to destroy the holy witness of God's people and leading them into sin. The amazing thing is that their cunning devices were so successful that the deceived were not even aware that they had been deceived. They sincerely received these false prophets as men of God. In reality the false prophets were wolves in sheep’s clothing! God’s true prophets were severely persecuted and many died for their faith.

This has not changed. Instead of infiltrating the nation, today these false prophets have appeared from within churches. They have the appearance of holiness and utter “thus saith the LORD” to increase the potency of their deception. We need to identify today’s false prophets by understanding the marks, behaviour and methods of the false prophets in the Bible and recognize them for who and what they are. To be forewarned is to be forearmed! May God help us in these last days. Amen.

"A Man After God's Own Heart!"

“A man after God’s own heart” is a very well known phrase to many Christians. It is quoted frequently to describe King David. It is used to exhort a young person who is becoming a man after his own heart. This person wants to do what is right in his own eyes. He claims to be a Christian but his life is beginning to look less and less Christian-like in many ways. He disobeys his parents. He talks back to them with a raised voice when in his younger days he did not do so. He begins to lose interest in his studies. His new-found friends have begun asserting a carnal influence that is slowly changing him, with frightful consequences. The parents are heavy-hearted. They are losing their son to the world. They feel helpless. This, however, is not an infrequent account and it does not apply only to teenagers but also to adults of all ages.

What has happened to the man/woman after God’s own heart who used to worship and serve the Lord faithfully in His house? Where is the prayerful soul whose example once pointed others to Christ? How could adulthood impact the heart of a man/woman, who used to be after God’s own heart, to change so tragically, to love the world and turn his/her back on Christ? May our gracious God help us to stand true to Christ as men and women “after God’s own heart” all the days of our lives till Christ returns. Amen.

"Death!"

Death is man’s last enemy. It is a most fearful enemy. It is a cold-hearted enemy. It tears asunder loved ones by its powerful cold fingers without mercy. When it is time, death breaks down every door and barges in and takes any life it desires. Youthful zeal and strength are easily blown aside by the wintery breath of death, for it is no respecter of age or status. Kings and presidents die just like a beggar. Old men and babies also meet the same fate when death knocks on the heart’s door. This frightful hopeless end awaits all who are born into this sin-sick world. All die because all sin. Yet, amidst this dark and hopeless sea of humanity, the divine light of Christ shines through the thick veil of death. Christ by His one offering of His perfect and holy body as the Lamb of God is able to take away the sins of the world. Death is vanquished forever in Christ. Death is no longer the fearful enemy. Its sting has been removed by the omnipotent hand of God. There is a way to escape death. Come and be blessed by God’s truth and find the divine solution from God who can take death away from your life.

"Resurrection!"

If there is a most desirable word that the sinful world longs to hear, it has to be the word “resurrection”! Resurrection is not reincarnation. Reincarnation is a belief that a human being will come back after death to live another life and in another body which may include the bodies of birds, beasts and creeping things. Resurrection is to return to earth in another human body but also a heavenly body. This is the glorious hope of every child of God because of the finished work of Jesus Christ at Calvary when He died for us on the cross and rose from the dead for our justification.

However, this blessed divine hope is lost in the midst of heavy burdens and thick forests of earthly attractions. The cares of this world has created a financial mountain to climb for almost all who begin their lives in the 21st century. This load has weighed down the shoulders of many believers and they struggle to look up. Their gazes are glued downward to the earthly ground, hoping to find nuggets of gold to lift them out of their earthly burdens. This sad tale is the tale of many modern day believers, to the stumbling of sinners who see little difference between their lives and the lives of God’s children.

The doctrine of the resurrection has the power to change all that. Our eyes need to look up so that the unyielding burdens on our frail shoulders will be lifted under the might and power of the resurrection of Christ. This new series hopes to make this a reality in the lives of God’s children who are struggling. Amen.

"Forgiveness"

“I can forgive but I cannot forget!” is one of the most common statements made out of grief and anger when deeply hurt. Yet forgiveness is the best balm to heal all wounded and aching hearts. Sinful man has a very poor ability to forgive. He might be able to forgive for small and insignificant hurts. But when it comes to very painful hurts like betrayal or loss of loved ones or freedom and life, it is impossible to forgive.

To be able to forgive in all circumstances in life is the norm expected of all born again believers. This is God’s expectation. This ability to forgive originates from God in Christ. It is from heaven, not of this earth. With the God given ability to forgive, all wounds can be healed. All relationships no matter how broken can be stitched together by the threads of divine forgiveness. All bitterness can be driven away from our hearts as far as the east is from the west if we forgive for the sake of Christ. The soul imbued with a peaceful conscience, where the seeds of love and joy are watered by God’s heavenly forgiveness and bloom with the fragrance of Christ’s salvific work coursing through, enables all believers to rejoice always and in everything give thanks because it is the blessed will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us. This is the experience of many of God’s faithful servants as they suffered unimaginable losses for the sake of Christ and God’s people and the extension of God’s kingdom.

This experience of forgiving all, just as we have been forgiven by God in Christ, ought to be every believer’s daily experience in this most unforgiving world.

"Judgment"

There is the judgment of man and the judgment of God. The judgment of man is corrupted by sin. It is imperfect. It is fraught with prejudices and censorious thinking. It hurts rather than heals. It is seldom righteous. More often than not, it either under or over punishes. But the judgment of God is not so. It is always righteous and perfect. His judgment is found in life and in death. There is no escape from God’s judgment. He respects no faces of man.

Then there are the daily judgments made every moment of our lives. Judgments govern and control our actions. They can result in dire consequences if made wrongly. Man needs to know how to judge and how they will be judged.

This quarterly series on the theme “Judgment” hope to help us judge well and be found acceptable before God’s throne of judgment after death. Come and be blessed by God's truth, for judgment awaits all of us in life and at death. May God find us faithful and not wanting. Amen.

“Know Your Church!”
The face of the church has transformed into a kaleidoscope of images that boggles the mind of every sinner and even some believers. The reason is the last days we are living in. The Lord Jesus has prophesied that before His return, the Christian church will fall away into apostasy. The church will be Christian in name only and nothing more. Thousands if not millions have been duped into believing that they are going to heaven when in reality they are still heading towards hell. The reason is their sins have not been washed by the blood of Christ, for the Christ they were introduced to and believe in is not the Christ of the Bible. The person who is truly born again has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to help him to discern from God’s Holy Word whether he and his loved ones are in an unbiblical or biblical church. Knowing what one’s church is like, based upon the study of God's Word, will make an eternal difference as to whether one ends up in heaven or in hell.

“Know Yourself!”
The world wants us to know ourselves as people of the world. The educational system is designed toward this goal. Its purpose is clearly seen by its many man-made meaningless accolades such as graduate and post-graduate titles. The working world and governments are the icing on the cake of man-centred praise with their egocentric acronyms and titles such as CEO, GM and Presidents, Premiers and Prime Ministers, and Kings and Queens. Christians have been sucked into this whirlpool of false praise so that they will forget who they are in Christ. With this amnesiac mind-set they will soon forget their duties as children of God who have a glorious and Christ-centred mission.

The less Christians know who they are in Christ, the easier it will be for them to live like the world and be seduced by the god of this world, the devil! 21st century Christians live in an era of apostate Christian Faith. They need to know who they are in Christ now more than in any other century. The Bible is replete with many assuring and convicting titles to describe the children of God. The better they understand how their heavenly Father views them, the more steadfast they will be in their perseverance in fighting the good fight of faith and in evangelism. Believers’ identity in Christ is one of the most important truths that has been revealed to strengthen their resolve to live a victorious life for Christ. They can all hear their Lord commend them with “well done my good and faithful servants” if they remain faithful by fulfilling all that the Lord has intended through the many special names He uses to describe His children.

Take heed and truly know who you are in Christ for His glory!

“Know the Beginning and the End”
The knowledge of the beginning and the end is crucial and necessary. If we think that the beginning is godless evolution, then the end is sin, death and hell! The sinner does not fear God. He thinks there is no accountability in his life. His life is one of aimless debaucherous living . . . eating, drinking and merry making. Such foolishness is the bane of our society today!

However, once we know the truth of our beginning, we will want to know the end. We always begin with God. His witnesses are all around us. The heavens and the earth are one humongous intricately designed and ordered design. The most complicated of all of man's designs put together cannot be compared with it! Yet man is so foolish he cannot see and greatly risks dying in sin and ending in hell. But he can do something about it NOW so that his destiny can be changed from hell to heaven! All he needs to do is to know his true beginning and he will by God’s grace be deeply convicted enough to do something about his end.

If you know your end is heaven, there is a God-given responsibility to impact others for Christ so that you can help them see their end.

Be that someone who knows his beginning and end. Make a difference today before it is over for good.

“Know Your Gains and Losses”

Everyone likes to gain and not lose. Profit and loss is what the life of man is made of. This is not limited to his economic realm but every aspect of his life. However, the world has blinded man to think that all that matters in life is what he gains in the material realm. Man has been kept in the dark about the far more significant gains and losses in the spiritual realm. His eternity in hell or heaven is surely on the line.

This final quarter of SGH 2019 will focus on what each of us will gain or lose by what we decide here and now in life. To help us make right decisions, God has given to us His revelations on what man will lose or gain depending more on how he lives than what he says. One such sermon has this question asked by Jesus Christ to all of us, "What shall it profit a man if he were to gain the world and lose his soul?" (cf Matthew 16:26) Indeed, this is a very pertinent question as 21st century man lives to own this world with all its modernity and electronic fancies. "The successful and good life is measured by what man owns to do what man wants!" "The more we own the more we get to do what we want!" Are these not some of the notions that have captured the hearts and minds of children and have also become their drive to excel and be at the very top in life? Are their souls worth so little? The glory of man is but fleeting and it appears like a vapour and is gone by noon time. Our souls and that of our loved ones must be more than the abundance of what we possess! Come and let Christ Jesus help you to gain and no longer suffer loss.

"THE CHRISTIAN AND WORSHIP!"

The Greek word for "worship" is "proskuneo." The literal meaning is "to kiss like a dog kissing its master's hand." The Hebrew word for worship is "sha-chah." It has the idea of a person who "prostrates" himself on the ground. This is how the Bible defines worship! So, who do you worship?
God has created in mankind a propensity to worship. After the fall, man is so steep in sin that they worship anything and anyone, including objects with eyes that cannot see, ears that cannot hear, and hands and feet that cannot move. Man make such objects, and then call them gods, as if these objects made man! After God has saved sinful man, He also restored in man the chief purpose of their existence. They were created to worship God and to glorify Him only, and no one else. The worship of the one living and true God has been greatly assaulted by Satan today in many 21st century churches. Christendom has entered into the period of the Judges where everyone worships God in any way that is right in his/her own eyes. It is as if God has no choice but to accept! The corruption of worship is the death of the church! Come and be instructed. May God be merciful that through the study of His holy and perfect Word, true worship may be restored in our lives and in churches. Amen.

"THE CHRISTIAN AND HIS POSSESSIONS!"

Man is made of the earth and from the earth he eats and drinks. His dependence upon the earth for life is so great that man is calling the earth his mother. "Mother Earth" is a term that captures man's need and love for the things of the earth. Man thinks that life is measured by the abundance of his possessions. Billionaires are placed on pedestals for the world to marvel at. The richest man is sought after as a life worth emulating. These are true riches to sinful man.
Sadly, believers today are deluded into thinking the same way. They think that they are blessed of God because they are rich and they have increased their "net worth." What are true riches? God's children should regard riches the way their one true living God measures true riches. The Bible shows man's dependence upon the earth for life. Therefore, we can learn from the Word of God to guide us and protect us from the lust of the eyes and the lust of flesh that pervade the world and churches today! May God deliver His people from the delusion of possessions and open their eyes to the biblical way they must live before all is lost. Amen.

"Evidence of Salvation!"

The 21st Century is known as the last of the last days by many of God's people. One of the main reasons is that the falling away of Christianity has taken place. This was prophesied by God in 2Thessalonians 2:1-3 as one of the many signs that will occur before Christ's imminent return. This means that the generation of the 21st century is subject to deception of the highest order. There are more false believers today since the founding of the local church witness in Acts 2. Many are at risk of thinking that they are going to heaven when in reality they are still heading toward hell. This is the worst human condition to be in, for he will be beyond salvation if he thinks that he is already saved! These professing believers are found in almost all the churches of our time. This deadly pandemic of falsehood has gripped the world by storm since the birth of the Charismatic Movement, Ecumenical Movement and Neo-evangelical Movement in the 20th century. It has spread all over the globe through modern technology. Like wildfire, it cannot be stopped by man. It will culminate in the Second Coming of Christ. He will come as Judge and not as Saviour! It is imperative that we are not deceived and are not deceiving ourselves in these last days. The price of being deceived is spending eternity in Hell. May God open our eyes and help us to see. Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear must see and hear NOW!

"Understanding the Miracles of Christ"

Miracles in the Bible are supernatural. They are to be distinguished from the miracles done by Satan. The miracles in the Bible have their source in God. There are basically 2-types of miracles in the Bible. The miracles that hurt, and the miracles that help. The miracles of God done through Moses when he was in Egypt hurt the Egyptians very badly. Some of the miracles of God done through Moses in the wilderness helped Israel, for example, when God sent manna to feed them and provide water for them. The Miracles of Jesus Christ always helped. He healed, cast out demons and even raised the dead.

All the miracles in the Bible are called signs and wonders. They are meant to point to the person or the person’s teaching! The miracles of Christ reveal many amazing truths about salvation. His ministry and who Jesus Christ really is. They are gems and nuggets of truth. The miracles of Christ thrill and amaze the mind and yet they touch the soul and transform hearts. Understand the miracles of Christ and taste and see how great Christ is. Understanding Christ’s miracles today will also help you not to be deceived by the many claims of the “miraculous” in these last days. Amen.

A Needful Ministry for these Last Days

Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species" (1859) took the western world by storm. In time, moral standards collapsed as society felt emancipated from Christian restraints. In time godlessness became the new code of conduct.
By the 20th Century, the new trend was embraced by progressive society, as advances in science and technology persuaded the intelligentsia that man could do without God: higher education with science and technology was what advanced society needed.
At SGH we call to attention the folly of casting aside the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the rock-firm foundation of the society which gave us what we hold dear today. The urgent siren call to thinking men and women is:the Creator God is still very much alive and in charge!Moreover He is coming back to call men to give an account: Judgment Day is at hand!
The God who started it all is coming! You and I will have to give an account before the Judgment Seat of Christ. The Day is at hand.

When Jesus comes!

Beware, Last Days Scoffers
In Noah's time, the global destruction was by water. The final destruction will be by fire (2 Peter 3:10). God's Word plainly says that the earth "... and the works that are therein shall be burned up."
The two global destructions are expressed in the Chinese word 災: the upper component of the character says "water" while the lower component reads "fire." The original Chinese know it long ago!
But scoffers "pooh-poohed" the idea, "maybe world destruction will come in 10,000 years' time!"

Jesus Says

The visible Church of Jesus Christ has been badly maligned today since the birth of the ecumenical movement in the early 20th Century. After nearly 100 years of the influence of the ecumenical movement, the face of 21st Century Christianity is vastly different from that of the Pentecost in Acts 2. The true gospel of Jesus Christ that is according to the Holy Scriptures is lost among the myriad proclamations we read and hear about. We must get back to basics, for it is our salvation that is on the line. We must make sure of our salvation or we will find ourselves in Hell if we die in our sin. We are not believers just because we say we are. We are believers only if we have truly accepted Jesus Christ according to the Scriptures.
Who is Jesus? Let Jesus speak for Himself through the Scriptures as we study the Bible through the theme "Jesus says".

When God calls, don't you refuse!

When God's servant John Sung came in 1935-38, I missed the call to full-time service. In August 1938, unexpectedly, God's servant was holding an unscheduled service of consecration in Muar, Johor.
Mother asked if I might be interested to make the 32-mile trip. I jumped at the opportunity, and in no time I was with my parents on the way to Muar from Batu Pahat.
When Dr Sung gave the call for full-time service, I put up my hand without hesitation, together with a dozen others. After the service Dr Sung laid hands and prayed for all of us. That was in 1938.
Thirty years later, I gave myself for full-time service, in the Lord's "vineyard."
I have now been in the Lord's service "full-time" - some forty years. These have been blessed years, in the service of the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. I was once asked, "Have you had any regrets, resigning the professorship of obstetrics and gynaecology?"

The Climax of Creation
Evolution's Deadly Deception

A lie, told often by respectable persons, gains credibility over time. Eventually, the lie gains the semblance of truth. This is Satan's method.
When I first entered Medical School, I was taught that evolution began some 500 million years ago. Today, some 70 years later, that figure has grown to 3,000, and if you like, make it 10 billion years or more!
This is speculation, not science.
Today, evolution is taught in institutions of learning, from the lowest to the highest, and generally assumed to be fact. What Darwin had put forth as a tentative idea had now gained the aura of truth.
But evolution is still a deception from the devil, the father of lies.

Ready for the Rapture

When our Lord rose from the grave, none of the disciples believed, though he had forewarned them time and again. Not even the witness of the ten disciples could convince Thomas the Doubter (John 20:25).
It is therefore no surprise when many of today's Christians scoff at the idea of our Lord's Second Coming. Yet this is the Scripture record.
Christian reader, whether you believe or not, true believers will be taken up when our Lord returns to earth as He promised. Read 1Thessalonians 4:16 and 17 and be not unbelieving.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

The Christian faith is founded on truth and undisputable fact. However, our adversary, the Tempter and father of lies, sows seeds of doubt in young minds as he did to Eve and Adam, bringing about Man’s downfall.

Today the enemy continues to poison the minds of our children and youths, and adults too, so much so that many have fallen away from the truth.

God’s Word says, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15).

At SGH questions are fairly addressed and answers reasonably given, according to Christian faith and God-given understanding.

Last quarter, we dealt with a dozen and more FAQs. This quarter, the same number, but from a different source: the questions came from SGH Faithfuls. To those who sent questions, a big “Thank you!” Together, during the 2nd Quarter of 2012, we shall seek the illumination of God’s Word. “The entrance of thy words giveth light” (Psalm 119:130).

Thank God for His inerrant and enlightening words, which give complete assurance and satisfaction, and they are so reasonable too! Therefore the Apostle Peter says, “be always ready to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope… in you…” (1 Peter 3:15). God gives reason and hope.

In the Beginning

Our interest is, “What happened in the beginning? How can we know?” The obvious answer is, “Ask the one who began it all!”

In home affairs, ask Father: he will tell you. In world affairs, ask the Creator: He has it written in His Book - the Bible.

In the first quarter of the New Year, we shall delve into the downfall of Man, how he began well but soon fell under curse, plunging the earth into sorrow and death. Was the Creator caught unawares by the turn of events? Had the Creator miscalculated? The Bible says “No: it was God’s master plan.”

In 1859 Darwin shook the world with his “Origin of Species”. Men of science thought Darwin’s ideas were great. “Forget God and Creation!” It all happened “by chance” in the beginning - without God! Who needs od? Given “time and chance”, matter will evolve. All that matters is matter!

With Man elevated to the place of God, God was dismissed from Man’s thinking. But listen to what the Creator says: “The fool gath said in his heart, There is no God” (Psalm 14:1). “Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker” (Isaiah 45:9).

But God also has the last word: He says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end”. He is the Creator and Judge to come. He who began it will also end it. On that Judgment Day, how will you fare before the Judge?

Earnestly Contend for the Word

Even “... the stones would immediately cry out” (Luke 19:40).

So said our Lord to the false teachers of His day. Today we face a similar situation, only a thousand times worse.

The Word of God, most precious gift to His church, is being altered, falsified, denied and perverted, a thousand times over at the expense of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Committees of experts so-called, translators and consultants, boldly and openly deny His sonship of God, His blood atonement, bodily resurrection and personal return. A thousand and one mutilations are done to the Lord and Saviour to the blooming of a hundred corrupted and perverted “Modern English Versions”.

Now should the faithful servants of the Lord quietly tolerate in dumb silence? Then, “the stones would immediately cry out.”

At Sunset Gospel Hour, men of faith will declare all the counsel of God and His inerrant, infallible Word. Those who have ears, let them hear.

Victorious Living in Perilous Times

“Dangerous, Fierce, Furious” are some of the words used in Strong’s Greek Dictionary to describe the Greek word translated in the KJV as “perilous”. Perilous for whom, is our question. Not for the people of the world as they swim in the pond of wickedness, evil, debauchery homosexulaity, fornication and adultery. These sins are the hallmarks of totally depraved sinners which once characterised Christians, but not anymore.

The perilous times are for believers. The phrase “perilous times” is found in 2 Timothy 3:1. This was a final warning from the Apostle Paul to his spiritual son, Timothy, who was pastor of the church in Ephesus. The book of 2nd Timothy was Paul’s last epistle before his martyrdom. Believers will become targets of Satan who will do his utmost to entrap them into sin. When Christians fall into sin, Christ’s Name is tarnished. Our witness for Christ is diminished and shame ensues. The casualties would be too numerous to number. How often would a Christian witness weep and howl in his soul when sinners say that they would never accept Christ as their Saviour because of the bad testimonies of Christian friends or relatives, which may even have happened some time ago? Such a painful experience never seems to leave the mind and soul with the passage of time.

The road of salvation is a narrow road through a narrow gate. False prophets and false Christians will abound in the last days to confound and confuse sinners from finding the narrow gate and entering the narrow way. Let every Christian not add to sinful confusion by living in sin. The next quarter of SGBF attempts to deal with some of these sins that Paul warned Timothy of, which will become prevalent in the last days that characterise these perilous times. Let us come and be warned that we may be forearmed. May God be merciful as every Christian earnestly contends for the faith by living holy lives for the Lord Jesus’ sake.

A Testimony Founded for God’s Glory

Many Christian movements have been started on a vibrant biblical note but have fossilised into a monument. These Christian monuments are only godly in name; they are no longer contending for the faith. Some have even portrayed themselves as angels of light, pretending to be earnestly contending for the faith. They have become part of the end time one world church of the Antichrist. This is the falling away as prophesied in 2 Thessalonians 2:3

What about the B-P Movement? has she gone the way of the monument too? As we reflect on 60-years of the B-P movement, we cannot help but be saddened by the spiritual cracks that have befallen our beloved Movement. Some B-P churches are merely monuments. Others are becoming monuments. Will the entire movement head in the same direction? In spite of our failures and spiritual lethargy, we thank God for His faithfulness and goodness in keeping some of the B-P Churches in the way of truth and righteousness as a testimony founded for God’s glory.

The battle for the Bible and the testimony of Christ rages on. For this reason, we gather to thank God because there will probably not be another 60-years, as the signs of the return of Christ are crying out all around us to awake and number our days and apply our hearts unto wisdom. The Day of Judgement is nigh! AMEN. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Hebrews - Promise of Better Things

Hebrews, the only anonymous epistle of the New Testament, is placed after those identified as Pauline and before the general epistles. Even though it is anonymous, its thoughts and arguments are Pauline throughout.

The epistle is an exhortation toward a full experience of salvation, presented in a classic Greek rhetorical style. It is unique, abounding in problems and characteristics, peculiar to itself. Nevertheless it contains deep theological insight into the nature of the salvation which God provided us in His Son. This concept is predicated upon rabbinic-type argumentation from Old Testament institutions and statements about the salvation of God. Exhortation and useful principles for the enjoyment of salvation are found throughout.

The Greatest Wisdom: Our Beginning

In this second quarter of 2009 we shall deal with “origins”. Fundamental questions such as “Who made me?”, “Where did I come from?”, “What am I doing on earth?” will be answered from God’s Word.

21st Century Man, in his sophistication and self-assurance, sees no need of God, no God, and no Creator. At the press of a few buttons, things happen according to his will. Life is so amazingly satisfying, what need is there of God?

But man has no answer to the most basic question that bothers him today: “What is death?”, “Why must men die?”, “Where do I go after death?”

These provocative questions, and many others, will be answered.

200-years ago Darwin sailed round the world and wrote a book of origins. Since then, intelligent and cultured men and women willingly deny their divine origin and prefer kinship with animals and apes.

But men who come to Christ receive light from His Word, find wisdom of the highest order: simply to know that he has a Creator who is able to give him life which triumphs over death.

Such knowledge is “Greatest Wisdom”. It will be made plain and available to you.

”500-Years of John Calvin”
Continuing Reformation in Perilous Times

There are not many Christians who would take the time to explore the rich spiritual heritage of John Calvin, the great Geneva theologian, as contained in his many sermons, his letters, and in his famous “Institutes of the Christian Religion”. And most certainly Calvin himself would advise us rather to turn to the living and everlasting Word of God and to attend to the preaching of it. As a matter of fact, he was not interested in Calvinism, nor did he seek the following of Calvinists, be they Hyper-, Neo-, or just ordinary Calvinists! In promptness and sincerity, he only wanted to promote true, Biblical Christianity. Unlike many other theologians, John Calvin did not try to develop a theology of his own. He is great in not seeking greatness. Yet, being endowed with an unusually keen mind, and a receptible heart, Calvin’s expositions of Biblical truth are at once timeless and timely.

”Save Our Children

Jesus says in Matthew 19:14, “...Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” The word “children” here refers to a “young child”.The phrase “forbid them not” means “to stop hindering them”. The adults who wanted to stop the young children from going to Christ were expressly told to stop hindering them. The reason is that heaven is made up of people with child-like faith. Therefore, young children are the best candidates for heaven! On earth, they are at an age in their lives which coincides with the spiritual age of everyone who is in heaven… possessing childlikeness. As they grow up, they will lose this childlikeness and take on the age of scepticism and rebellion.

The world cares enough for our children to entice them with carnal desires and endow them with sinful habits. Christ desires them to come to Him and adults are not to hinder them in any way. The ones who stand between the young children and Christ or the world are the parents!

This series of messages have been planned for parents to help them stand in the gap to help their children to see that going to Christ is the better choice. It is a series designed also to warn our children of the dangers in this world, which is experiencing the last throes of its existence. To save our children is to save their souls unto Christ for eternity. Amen.

Pastor’s Evening Visit

Readers of Pastor James Smith’s “Daily Remembrancer” will be glad this second quarter’s sermon topics are taken from his evening readings. The hope and prayer is that all will be much enriched by the Word of God preached according to Daily Remembrancer’s scheduled readings. Some of the material may be “old stuff” but every sermon comes with the same authority and power of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Smith says, “We want nothing new in divinity, the old is better. We only want the power and unction of the Holy Spirit to bring home the truth with energy and savour to our souls. We want more of Christ, and less of self. May every preaching of the Word endear the Saviour, promote confidence in God, lead to entire consecration of soul to Him, and be the means of comforting many a weary pilgrim. May we all be led from the fleeting vanities of time to the substantia realities of eternity.”

Prayer

”Pray without ceasing!” is the command of our Lord to all His children. Seldom do we find mentioned in the Bible teachings that God wants His children to do without ceasing (the other two being “rejoice and giving thanks”). We lieve in an age of great moral bankruptcy and self-centeredness. The great “I” comes first. This sense of self-sufficiency has turned prayer into an “emergency exit” that we use “only if” WE cannot solve our life’s problems our way. If we could solve them ourselves, then God takes an immediate back seat, and He is subtly pushed to the recesses of our mind.

But God says to his children to enter into His presence boldly. He urges us to pray all the time. No matter is too small that He does not care. No matter is too big that He cannot help. He desires all His children to lean on Him and not on themselves. He lovingly keeps this prayer door always open to all His children.

Theref;re it is of utmost importance that Christians pray correctly. Christians have been given direct access to the Almighty God. This new series on PRAYER helps us to pray in such a way that all that we ask will be answered by God. Did not our Lord promise in John 14:13-14, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

In a world of global decay and degeneration, we need God more today than in any age!

May more of Christ’s disciples cry, “Lord teach us to pray!”

Earnestly Contend for the Faith

A Mighty Fortress is our God, Psalm 46.

Drawing on God’s Word in Psalm 46:1,2 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear…” Martin Luther, the 16th Century Reformer, wrote the hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is our God”, exalting our great Redeemer Creator God.

Luther set the words to music. It became the “Battle Hymn of the Reformation”, rallying God’s people to the cause of truth and liberty. God’s time had come for the thousand-year darkness over Europe to be lifted and the people to be liberated from Satan’s fetters of ignorance and superstition.

Luther revived Congregational Singing after centuries of ignorant and useless formalistic worship. He lifted the spiritual fervour and power of Reformed Worship to new heights of adoration of almighty God.

Thank God for Luther and the revival of joyous godly congregational worship. Pray that God will be merciful to revive us with a new spirit and fire, that every Lord’s Day evening at SGBF may prove to be a blessing to weary and despondent souls. May God visit His people anew with seasons of revival and revitalisation of the Spirit.

Sing Unto The King! - Part 1

Written over 2,500 years ago, the Psalms still have freshness of the dew that fell this morning. The Psalms breathe worship in every note. Here it is confession, elsewhere it is supplication, again it is reflection, and anon, it is praise, but always it is worship, the bringing of every conceivable human experience into the presence of God, whether joy, or grief, trust or anxiety, hope or despair. There are dirges written in minors and anthems pitched in majors.

There is no real possibility of anyone adequately analyzing the message of the Psalms for another; each soul must receive the message for itself and feel it as in the presence of God. One’s favourite psalm with the exception of the 23rd, which is always a favourite, depends upon his particular need at a given time.

The Psalms must have been the favourite part of Scripture even to our Lord and His disciples, for nearly two-thirds of Old Testament quotations in the New Testament are from the Psalms. They found Christ in the Psalms at every point.

So in our generation, the songs that live are those that sing of Him and His grace. The best in music still centres about Him as in the Psalms. Christianity is of no doubt a singing religion, and the explanation is given by St Paul in these words, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Col 3: 16).

Pastor's Evening Visit

Pastor James Smith’s devotional readings of 1840 were written for the benefit of his people “… to stir up their pure minds by way of remembrance… to promote the power of godliness… to convince, comfort, and correct; to fan the flame of devotion, and to produce holiness of heart and life.”

For the last quarter of this year at SGBF, we shall be preaching weekly from Pastor Smith’s godly devotionals. Each Sermon Topic will be based on the Daily Remembrancer reading for the Evening of the same date. This will encourage more people to read the Daily Remembrancer daily. Current Affairs

The Bible prophesies that in the final days of man’s existence, there will be a global decline in morality, purity, truth and righteousness.

2 Timothy 3:1-7 says, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Dear reader, we are living in the last days. The topics for this quarter will focus on issues pertaining to these last days. Our only protection is in the Word of God. Be instructed and be protected by God’s Holy Word from these perilous times.

"How Can I?" - Everyday Challenges of Life for YOU!

DIY with God.

Modern living is inundated with many forms of DIY. There is the DIY for the home, from the floor trap in the bathroom to the kitchen sink. The DIY for cars would include the changing of headlights and spark plugs. There seems to be a DIY for practically everything in our lives.

How about a DIY for the Christian walk? This series touches on the day-to-day relationships and struggles of the every day Christian. The series includes topics like singlehood, married life, evangelism, family worship, discovering God’s will and overcoming temptations. It is a “how can I” series teaching Christians to learn to trust God, to “stand on their own two feet” with God as their ever present and all sufficient Helper. Friends are blessings from God but there are times when we have to struggle alone with God to help us.

Jesus says that without Him we can do nothing. John 15:5 says, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” As Christians we need the knowledge from God’s Holy and perfect Word for our Christian DIY, that we may grow and conform to the image of Christ
