GOD WILL EXALT THE HUMBLE

APRIL 26, Luke 14:11

The Lord Jesus Christ is the supreme example of humility. He is God but left His Father’s glorious throne and took the form of man to live modestly on earth. And not just any man, but a poor man for he was born into a humble carpenter’s family. And where was he born? Often we see pictures of baby Jesus in a beautiful manger on Christmas cards. That is not how a real manger looks like. Real mangers are filthy and smelly. Also, he grew up in the lowly home of Joseph, a carpenter, not some rich businessman. When He had His preaching ministry, he had no place to rest His head. He was worse off than the foxes which at least had holes as home.

Jesus was truly meek and righteous. He kept all the commandments of God. Though He is equal in power to God, He was obedient to His heavenly Father. He endured man’s mocking and suffered the most painful death on the cross. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. He appeared before His disciples and then returned to heaven’s glory. The day will come when He will come to earth again. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow. He will be exalted high as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

How do we follow Jesus’ example? Do we have to leave our comfortable homes to be a wanderer? Or hide our music and singing talents to show humility? Let us not do any of that because it is false humility. Let us truly be humble in our heart. Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” It means to truly know that we can do nothing without God and we are totally dependent on Jesus to save us. A humble heart will show in our speech and action. If we are humble, the kingdom of heaven will be our inheritance. Jesus is exalted and in Him we will be promoted, too.

Underline the right answers:

Thought: God will exalt the humble.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to remember that everything I own belongs to You and without You I can do nothing. Teach me humility and help me never to be proud for I know I am nothing without Jesus. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
