CHRISTIAN CHARACTER

AUGUST 26, 2 Peter 1:5-7

Consider these situations. Students in class get to correct their own work in the school; Su Min passes over a question she knows she has answered wrongly. Kong Meng throws a ball too hard and it breaks the window of his neighbour’s house; he quickly sneaks away. Passing by the teacher’s desk, Mee Lee sees the answers to a test; she glances at them to try to get some answers. Chong Yew finds a wallet on the field; he picks it and slips it in his own pocket. Wai Soon sees someone leave a basketball in the school playground; he takes it home.

The list goes on… Maybe you can think of more wrong things that you have seen with your own eyes or heard from someone. All these examples show what these boys or girls do when no one sees them. Are they children of character? Are they SURE no one has seen them? Do they not know that God sees and knows everything?

The Bible tells us what Christian character is in 2 Peter 1:5-7. Every believer must diligently work on these qualities.
List some of them below.

When you try to do the above, you will be happy and blessed. Not only does good character make a believer happy but it makes him a good testimony and witness for God. Remember as you try to have Christian character – it is like growing a tree. It will take time for the roots to strengthen and the tree to grow. It will not be a quick solution for the fruits will not happen overnight. So be patient, and press on!

Thought: From today’s reading, what must I do to be happy?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to develop godly qualities in my life. Please guide me daily. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
