Pastoral Chat

16 March 2014

My dear readers,

When Jesus Comes

1. Will you be ready?

This is a question for you – only you can answer. In your heart you may be thinking, "That message again! I’ve heard it before! So many times, I’m sick of it!"

Listen to what our Lord said:

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."(John 14:1-3)

Our Lord’s foremost concern is in verse 3:

"… if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Sense the love of our Lord for you and me: that we (His own) may be with Him – for always! This is the promise and prospect. It’s for you and me. So cheer up! Our Lord’s concern is: "that where I am, there ye may be also."

2. It will be the "Climax of History"

In Christ our Lord, a very happy and exciting prospect. I speak from experience. Ever since Dr John Sung preached it, I was gripped by the thought: the Lord who saved me is coming for me – to take me to be with Him, to be "in His service" – no better prospect! And the same for you too! Aren’t you thrilled, excited?

So, from the day that I heard the message, I promised to serve the Lord – "till He come"! That’s exciting!! And the same for you – and whoever will join His happy band, telling others, "The Lord is coming! Won’t you join Him?"

3. There is joy in serving Jesus!

Joy – new everyday – is the promise, to you and me, the day you say to Him: "Lord Jesus, I would like to be Your follower – part of Your band, to tell others the news: The Lord is coming, to begin His righteous reign on Earth, His rule of peace, joy and happiness, of justice for evermore! And you can be in His team, to help bring others into His everlasting joy and peace!"

There is joy in serving Jesus

1. As I journey on my way

Joy that fills my heart with praises

Ev’ry hour and ev’ry day

Chorus:

There is joy, joy, joy in serving Jesus

Joy that throbs within my heart

Ev’ry moment, ev’ry hour

As I draw upon His pow’r

There is joy, joy, joy that never shall depart

2. As I walk alone with God

’Tis the joy of Christ, my Saviour

Who the path of suff’ring trod

3. Joy amid the darkest night

For I’ve learned the wondrous secret

And I’m walking in the light.

This is my experience ever since the Lord called me, and I gave myself to Him! And, you too! There is joy in serving Jesus – coming King of Kings, and Lord of Lords!

When was the last time you were at the "Lord’s Table of Remembrance"? Do you remember our Lord’s promise?

"… I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come" (Luke 22:18).

Remember also the words of Revelation 19:9?

"… Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb…"

4. SGH Lord’s Day Evening, WELCOME

At Sunset Gospel Hour, God’s people prepare for our Lord’s return. Hear Him say,

"And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be" (Rev 22:12).

SGH beckons to you: Come! Together we prepare for the Lord’s return. Together we remind and encourage one another – as we see the day approaching! Together, we learn to serve Him better. Together, more zeal and zest to press on, as we see the day approaching!

What joy and jubilation on that day! Come! Together we encourage each other – "Be zealous! Serve Him with your best – your all!"

Before long: "Behold! He comes!" It will be worth it all!

Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,
Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
