Pastoral Chat

25 May 2014

My dear readers,

1. War Drums

The sounds say WAR IS COMING. Read Straits Times 20 May 2014 "between the lines." Turn to page A21 "OPINION." It talks of "Tripolar Paradigm." More accurately it is a BIPOLAR SITUATION.

World Powers USA and CHINA are sounding their "drums of war." Since WWII ended (1946), the years have flown by, ever so quickly.

But our Lord is in control. His coming cannot be far away. "Are you ready"? See you tonight.

2. Are you part of God’s Plan?

You may be a little puzzled with my question. Just what do I have in mind? Did you know that when you accepted the Lord Jesus as your Saviour, you became a child of God, and a member of God’s Family?

To every member of God’s Family comes the "Great Commission" which says:

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8).

Thereafter, our Lord ascended to heaven in a cloud.

"Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11).

Question: Are you ready for the Lord’s return?

After Jesus’ ascension to heaven, the Disciples gathered in Jerusalem for a Prayer Meeting in an "Upper Room." Now you ask me: "What is God’s Plan?" Please read Acts 1:8 again. In this verse is God’s Plan for all believers to be witnesses for the Lord "and unto the uttermost part of the earth." This is the "Great Commission" given to all who have believed in the Lord. Herein is "God’s Plan." Question: Have you been faithfully carrying out the "Great Commission"? How many souls have you brought to the Lord? This is "God’s Plan" for you and me!

3. Saul was God’s enemy until the Lord met him

Saul’s appearance on the "Gospel Scene" is described in the Acts of the Apostles Chapter 9:

"And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem." (vv 1-2)

But our Lord was watching him as he "threw himself into a mission against the Gospel workers." In a dramatic "turn-around," the enemy of the Gospel became the mightiest of Apostles. The destroyer of Christians became the greatest protector and champion of "followers of the Lamb."

4. Paul’s confession

For those who have done little for the Gospel cause learn from the Apostle Paul’s example. He threw himself "might and main" into the Gospel cause, sparing nothing for the cause of the Master.

The last three stanzas of the poem by Henry Wadworth Longfellow will stir some who are doing little or nothing to repay their "Gospel Debt":

A Psalm of Life (last three stanzas)

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

Be up and working while it is still day!

Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,

Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
