My dear readers,
1. Remember the Lord on our Calvary Pandan Anniversary
Today we recall how the Lord led us to Pandan Gardens some thirty-eight years ago to found Calvary Pandan B-P Church, a witness for the Lord of our salvation. We recall how our God helped us as He did to His people of old:
"Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth" (Psalm 105:3-5).
The Lord had a man, as He had Cyrus in years past to favour His servant, that when I called on him, a high official of Government, he readily showed favour by granting us with land to build Calvary Pandan B-P Church.
Looking back nearly 40 years later, I say with the Psalmist:
"Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness" (Psalm 150:1-2).
2. Happenings in Singapore
Singapore is now a global city: what happens in Singapore is of global consequence. The homosexual malady infected Singapore, as it has tainted society at large. Years ago a "pink fringe" spread to Singapore: we were not spared.
Sunday Times of June 29, 2014 reported: "Big turnout at Pink Dot Gathering" (pg 9 "top news"). "Organizers said a record 26,000 people attended the concert cum mass picnic held at Hong Lim Park for the sixth year running ... Attendance at the event had grown from 2,500 the first time it was held in 2009."
The "gay movement" has grown in the last five years something like 10 times. (This is a random estimate of the "gay movement's" growth.) The authorities here are watching developments. Obviously, the Straits Times reporter also noted that the organizers said that they had received "300 images of supporters from Singapore and abroad."
What do we gather from all the reports? For the answer we quote the Straits Times' leader (in "Opinion," pg A18): "A dot, but big enough to accommodate all." The name of the game is "accommodation." For the moment, "accommodation" will be sufficient to keep the "status quo." But when the "Pink Dot" grows to overwhelming proportions, then what?
3. Intervention from beyond
We now return to our Lord's reply to the questions posed to Him by the Pharisees, "when the kingdom of God should come." In reply, our Lord said,
"And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed." (Luke 17:26-30)
We are to look for a re-run of the a) Days of Noe and b) Days of Lot.
a) The days of Noe are best described in Genesis 6:5: "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."
This is the moral state of society prevailing when the Lord Jesus shall return.
b) The days of Lot are days of uncontrolled sexual activity between males and males as described in Genesis 19.
It is doubtful if Singapore society would tamely accommodate such behaviour as described in Genesis, for even "gay-tolerance" will have its limits.
How shall we conclude today's discussion?
On a day like this (our 35th Anniversary), we reaffirm our faith in a law-abiding and God-fearing society of Singapore. Let us all, as loyal citizens do our best to support all lawful policies of our leaders in government.
God bless all readers.
Yours faithfully in the Saviour's Service,
Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
