Pastoral Chat

3 August 2014

My dear readers,

1. An average morning in my life

Today I shall give readers some idea of a pastor’s life. On 22 July (Tues), I got up at 6.20 am, ten minutes before Mary, my Filipina maid who gets up every morning (like "clockwork") at 6.30 am. I went through the morning’s "cleaning up" process (plus shaving, etc) just before 7 o’clock. I got to my desk to find 2 faxes and 5 pages of fax messages.

I replied the fax letters: one from America, the other from Australia. From America is regular communication from Pastor Bill Ebert and wife Darla (missionaries to the Philippines stationed at "Hilltop", Antipolo, near Manila). The gist of their message: "Thank God, for prayers answered!" I joined in their thanksgiving. They have two more months in USA before flying home.

The second fax letter was from Dr Wieland which I share with readers for its interesting contents.

2. "Ravenshoe meeting with Rod Walsh and wife Nancy"

From Dr Carl Wieland (Creation Ministries International, Australia)

Rod Walsh is one of our presenters who travels with a model Ark (with his wife Nancy) on the Ark Van, and gives a superb presentation. He recently had a meeting in a country area of far North Queensland and it included an open air segment with many "grey nomads" (the Australian term for retired people who tow a caravan around Australia). The lady who was our local contact wrote this: "I’m so very grateful that Rod and Nancy Walshe came to Ravenshoe."

We had a few last minute hiccups as some people tried to stop it going to the school and the train station (earlier in the piece). All I could do is say, "God, You are in control and if it’s Your will, You open the doors!"

Well, the doors stayed open and all but four students from the Catholic School came and every student that participates in RE from the state school came.

We were able to set the Van up near where every student ate their lunch with the Ark showing! Needless to say Rod had many questions from many students and teachers over the lunch period. Wow how exciting! The talk around the school has been exciting and many are asking questions that they wouldn't have before.

A person at school said, "even though you are taught evolution in class, this CREATION is what I believe, it’s now up to you to choose what the truth is and believe! You have been presented different ideas and you need to make a judgement on what you believe! I believe this, not evolution!"

The outdoor evening was great. We have a few from the church which believe in a creation over millions of years and other Christians that believe in the six day creation present. Many grey nomads were present and the next day one came to me and said, "What a great night, I enjoyed it. I have different beliefs than what was said but I now have some thinking to do as the presenter explained it all very well that wasn’t offending! Now I see how the dinosaurs were on the Ark."

The students are asking more questions and I have a grin from ear to ear. I think our church is shaken up and I think the creation vs evolution vs creation over millions of years will now explode as people are having some heated discussions!

Blessings, Carl

3. CMI coming to Singapore in August

Dr Carl Wieland will be in Singapore with some CMI speakers (including Professor Stuart Burgess, Professor of Engineering Design, University of Bristol, England). Professor Burgess will be preaching at SGH on Lord’s Day, 17 August, on Beauty and Design in Creation. Bring your friends. Support every Gospel effort!

4. My day is fast filling up!

As the day flew by, the Lord sent more opportunities which required my attention, prayer and planning.

I shall see some of you at Pandan Prayer Meeting!

Finally, my daily prayer:

Let me burn out for thee!

Let me burn out for Thee dear Lord,

burn and wear out for Thee.

Don’t let me rust, or my life be a failure,

my God, to Thee.

Use me and all I have, dear Lord,

and draw me so close to Thee,

that I feel the throb of the great heart of God,

O let me burn out for thee.

God bless!

Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,

Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
