Pastoral Chat

My dear readers,

1. God’s Judgment for disobedient mankind coming

Mankind’s first rebellion was punished by a global flood sent by God. The account is recorded in Genesis chapters 6, 7 and 8.

In Genesis chapter 9 verse 11, the Lord Creator promised by the rainbow covenant:

"And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth … I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth." (Gen 9:11 and 13),

never again to destroy the earth with a flood of water.

God’s testimony is backed by the rainbow covenant to all mankind, that a global flood will not be repeated.

For all these thousands of years, despite man’s rebellious conduct towards our Creator God, a global flood has not been repeated, for our God is a promise keeping God.

This, however, does not mean that God will not punish a rebellious mankind at all. The Apostle Peter tells us that our Creator God shall, without doubt, punish a rebellious world, just as He had punished rebellious angels and rebellious mankind: no more with water (as promised), but with fire, as He had destroyed the rebellious cities Sodom and Gomorrha, not with water but with fire (2 Pet 2:6).

Further elucidation of God’s punishment prepared for disobedient and rebellious mankind is given in Peter’s second epistle chapter 3, verse 7:

"But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men."

But some two thousand years have passed since the epistle of Peter was written. Does this mean that God has forgotten? Not at all! says the Apostle Peter, who goes on to explain why God seems to do nothing.

"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Pet 3:9).

How shall the coming destruction be like? In 2 Peter 3:10, the Apostle describes the coming destruction as somewhat similar to what a "solar flare" from the sun striking our Planet Earth.

Mr Ashley Dale of the Department of Aerospace Engineering of Bristol University, England, warned that a violet solar storm could hit our Planet with devastating effect – a report of a similar occurrence was in 1859 (155 years ago). Mr Dale, currently working at Bristol University, said that it is "only a matter of time" before a solar storm strikes our Planet, similar to what happened in 1859, when some people thought it was the end of the world! (Such "solar flares" are capable of wreaking unimaginable damage to our Planet and our Planet is vulnerable! This is a real danger and no "scare-mongering." But such a terrifying event is real, not imaginary.)

2. Dictated over the telephone (19 August 2014)

Dear members,

I am not sure whether I will be discharged soon, but I am taking a rest. The prostate gland is said to be enlarged which is causing all the trouble (retention of urine). At the same time, I have an indwelling catheter so there is no obstruction. Whether surgery is required or not remains to be seen. Keep praying. Strictly no visiting please. God bless.

Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,

Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
