My dear readers,
1. Investing in eternity
Eternity is the Ultimate Reality. Wisdom is to shift our sights away from time to eternity, from earth to heaven. To the Colossian Church, the Apostle Paul wrote, "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth … When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory" (Col 3:2, 4).
Campers attending our Family Bible Camp (15 to 20 June at Pullman KL Bangsar), I exhort, " … look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal" (2 Cor 4:18). The things which are seen allure and deceive. Beware, then, the glitter of the perishing world.
May the Lord open our spiritual eyes to see the things which are invisible, as Moses who esteemed "… the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward" (Heb 11:26). So, by faith Moses forsook Egypt and endured affliction, for he had seen the things which are invisible. Moses invested wisely.
Make this Family Bible Camp your Investment in Eternity!
2. "Equal to Six Months’ Sunday Services"
In 1954, the first ever BP Bible Camp was held at Teluk Paku Primary School. During the week-long meetings for prayer, study of the Word of God, and fellowship, I reckoned that the spiritual benefits gained were equivalent to six months of normal attendance at Lord’s Day Services.
The key to blessing is prayer and supplication. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is God’s promise to His Church: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
Pray earnestly, seeking God’s face, and see if He will not send down a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
3. Camp time is "Sitting at the feet of Jesus"
(Joseph L. Hall, 1868)
1 Sitting at the feet of Jesus,
Oh, what words I hear Him say!
Happy place! so near, so precious!
May it find me there each day;
Sitting at the feet of Jesus,
I would look upon the past;
For His love has been so gracious,
It has won my heart at last.
2 Sitting at the feet of Jesus,
Where can mortal be more blest?
There I lay my sins and sorrows,
And, when weary, find sweet rest;
Sitting at the feet of Jesus,
There I love to weep and pray;
While I from His fullness gather
Grace and comfort every day.
3 Bless me, O my Savior, bless me,
As *I sit low at Thy feet; [*I’m waiting]
Oh, look down in love upon me,
Let me see Thy face so sweet;
Give me, Lord, the mind of Jesus,
Keep me holy as He is;
May I prove I’ve been with Jesus,
Who is all my righteousness.
Select Hymns, 1911 ("Timeless Truths")
Remember what our Lord said in Luke 10:41-42:
"And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
4. "One thing is needful" (Luke 10:42)
(Daily Remembrancer)
THAT ONE THING IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD AND HIS KINGDOM. All other knowledge will pass away. The things of time are transient, the things of eternity are permanent. The world passes away. The body must die; earthly connexions must be dissolved; but the soul lives for ever. The welfare of the soul is the one thing needful. If the soul is in a sanctified and healthy state, it will be found at the feet of Jesus; it will relish His words and enjoy His communications more than the richest feast. We shall be seeking to know Him, love Him, believe Him, obey Him, and enjoy Him. Fellowship with Jesus is needful as an evidence of interest in Him and as a source of satisfaction and comfort. He that finds a home at the feet of Jesus will enjoy an eternal heaven in the presence of Jesus. Let not then the many trifles of time affect, distract, and bewilder you; but let the one thing needful be the constant object of pursuit and desire. Live at the feet of Jesus and you are safe. Seek above all things to enjoy Jesus, and you will be happy. Aim in all things to glorify Jesus and you will be holy. Look daily for the coming of Jesus and you will be consistent. O Lord Jesus! manifest Thyself to me; draw me to Thy feet and keep me there! Incline Thine ear to this my prayer:
Assist this roving, wavering heart
To fix on Mary's better part;
To scorn the trifles of today,
For joys that none can take away.
God bless you and keep you, my dear readers.
Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,
Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
