My dear readers,
1. Incredible … unbelievable … but true
Man credits himself with the ability to reason and think, with reference to things of life and the sphere in which we move and live – i.e. the present visible and tangible world. For most, this world is the only focus which matters.
Jesus is the only man who could claim: "I came from above – from beyond earth." To Pilate, the Roman governor, our Lord said, "My kingdom is not of this world … my kingdom (is) not from hence … Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice" (John 18:36-37).
Note again what our Lord told Pilate: "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world …" Jesus came the first time to lay the foundation of God’s everlasting Kingdom, by His death and resurrection, which task He accomplished perfectly. Then He returned to His home in Heaven with the promise, "I will come again."
To the unbelieving world, such a promise is totally beyond reason and experience. It is, to the worldly wise, just what our opening caption says: "Incredible, unbelievable."
2. "Be not faithless, but believing"
May our Lord’s words to "doubting Thomas" – and others of like frame of mind, be received with faith, trusting in Him who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6).
Now, in the plan of God the Father, the time draws near for the Son, our Lord Jesus, to return from the "far country to receive for himself a kingdom …" (Luke 19:12).
Our Lord’s return to earth is an event foretold in Scripture "times without number," even from the dawn of Creation.
Read Jude 14-15: "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all …" All the apostles, in the Gospels and Epistles, speak of this climactic Event. All the current unusual happenings – the signs spoken by our Lord – herald His imminent return.
There is no happening so urgent and of universal concern as our Lord’s return to earth. To the unbelieving world it will be "panic and shook" beyond imagination! The event is described in Revelations 6:14-17: "And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"
The foregoing is a description of the coming happening – incredible … but true. God’s scheduled "Day of Judgment" is about to descend on planet earth. There will be no escape except for those who have taken shelter in the Kingdom of God.
Dear reader, be not faithless, but believing.
3. My faith has found a resting place (Lidie H Edmunds)
1. My faith has found a resting place –
Not in device nor creed;
I trust the ever-living One –
His wounds for me shall plead.
Refrain:
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.
2. Enough for me that Jesus saves –
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I came to Him –
He’ll never cast me out.
3. My heart is leaning on the Word –
The living Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior’s name –
Salvation through His blood.
4. My great physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave.
God bless all readers.
Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,
Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
