My dear readers,

(Excerpts from Building Firm Foundations / Daily Remembrancer)

1. Enter daily into the Holiest
The way into the holiest is open to every believer every day. There, at the mercy seat, our Saviour patiently and longingly awaits His dear children. And yet few will come. They will rather stray into the broad way that leadeth to destruction. Is it because they have not experienced the blessing of the mercy seat? Let these words from Hugh Stowell’s hymn draw us near to that Holiest Place.

From every stormy wind that blows,
From every swelling tide of woes,
There is a calm, a sure retreat –
‘Tis found beneath the mercy seat.

In our world racked by greed and lust, unrest and strife, what every Christian home sorely need today more than anything else is a revival of godly piety. Not a superficial, psycho-emotional workup but a humble, sober and sincere return to the God of our salvation; a decisive departure from sin in any form; a re-ordering of our life and its priorities, so as to give Jesus His rightful place as Lord and Master of our Life.

There must be reversal of priorities and values. Feeding soul must come before body. God’s Word must be yearned for more than physical food. Hence "Bible before breakfast" makes good sense. Working overtime for our daily bread may be unavoidable in today’s competitive society, but one must know when to call a halt to this relentless race, and make time for the Prayer Meeting.
The world is sick with filth and corruption, with greed and mammon worship. But these come in disguise as entertainment and recreation, as rare opportunities and investment portfolios. What defence and protection has the young believer against these and a host of other alluring temptations? Hoping that our young people will somehow escape these snares and pitfalls is not good enough. Mere praying is not good enough either.

The Saviour awaits! The way into the Holiest beckons to you and me! Every believer is invited to enter in by this new and living way. Therefore let us all draw near with a true heart, individually and collectively; let us assemble as a family daily and by ourselves singly. But we must not forsake this assembling. And let us come gladly, each day, without slackening.

2. Make me an intercessor, Lord!

Dr SH Tow
Make me an Intercessor, Lord,
I long to watch and pray;
To wait before Thy Throne of Grace
By night as well as day.
Make me an Intercessor, Lord,
In closest touch with Thee;
And by Thy grace I’ll never faint,
But pray till victory.
Make me an Intercessor, Lord,
O help me to prevail;
To persevere, to labour on
Though pow’rs of hell assail.
Make me an Intercessor, Lord,
Conformed unto Thy death;
Emptied, broken, yea crucified,
Then filled with Spirit’s breath.
Make me an Intercessor, Lord,
By prayer in everything;
A labourer with Thee my God,
In service of the King.
Make me an Intercessor, Lord,
In secret on the knee.
Unseen, unsung by any man,
But pleasing unto Thee! Amen.

3. ""I give myself unto prayer" (Ps 109:4)
(Daily Remembrancer Feb 9 Evening)
WATCHFULNESS AND PRAYER SHOULD BE ALWAYS UNITED. The praying Christian should watch, and the watching Christian should pray. The one exercise helps the other. We should be given to prayer as to our business, our daily occupation. It will preserve us from innumerable evils, and bring untold blessings into our possession. God loves to hear us pray. The prayer of the upright is His delight. May we be impressed with this thought whenever we go upon our knees. God loves to see me approach Him; He delights to hear me plead with Him. He listens to me with a Father’s ear. He rejoices over me with a Father’s heart. He is grieved when I neglect His throne, and cannot approve of my hurrying over my devotions, as I sometimes do. He says, "Come, come boldly." If we disregard His word or slight His invitation, He will send some trial, raise some storm, or let loose some enemy to drive us to His throne. If we could hear the voice of our troubles distinctly, or understand its language, we should hear it shout, "To your knees, and call upon your God!"

Father into my heart convey
The power incessantly to pray,
And plead my Saviour’s blood;
In love Thy Holy Spirit give,
In me to work, and breathe, and live,
That I may walk with God.

God bless all readers.

Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,
Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
