My dear readers,
(Excerpt from Building Firm Foundations, Dr SH Tow)
1. No greater love
FOR SIDNEY CARTON life had been empty and frustrating. Others had achieved so much, he so little. The lady he loved had married Charles Darney, but his love for her remained undiminished. It burned in his heart, an undying flame.
One day Charles Darney was condemned to die at the guillotine. A wild idea came to Sidney Carton. Here was his chance to prove to his lady love his eternal devotion. "Let me die for Charles Darney!"
By ingenious scheming, Carton smuggled himself into prison, exchanged clothes and places with Darney. Thus Carton went to the guillotine for his friend. On that chilly morning when he took his last steps to his death, he might have thought to himself, "At last my life has found fulfilment. I shall leave behind a fragrant memory in somebody's heart. "
Consider now the death of another Man. He laid down His life for us all. God's word says:
"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."(Romans 5:6, 8)
Carton died for a friend. Christ died for enemies. He "gave himself a ransom for all"(1 Tim 2:6). He, the sinless Son of God, died for us the sinful sons of men. He died to bring us back to God, to give us "an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven" (1 Pet1:4).
Dear friend, there is no greater love than God's love. Believe on the Lord Jesus and be a recipient of that love.
The Love of God
(Frederick M Lehman)
Could we with ink the ocean fill –
And were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill –
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above –
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Tho' stretched from sky to sky!
O love of God how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure —
The saints' and angels' song!
The Son of God became the Son of man that the sons of men might become the sons of God.
Lord, accept me as Thy child, through Jesus Christ my Saviour.
2. "I’ll be looking for you!"
LYNN was just seven when she became an earnest believer. Her tender heart received Jesus as her Saviour. She also loved her father very dearly, but he was not a believer, and was not concerned about the things of God.
Each evening as father returned from work, Lynn would be at the gate eagerly waiting. The wooden gate was high and the palings or stakes were close together, so father removed one of the palings so that Lynn might see him approaching. Each evening Lynn would wait for father without fail, eagerly looking through the opening in the gate.
One day, Lynn fell sick and no doctors could heal her. Father called in the best specialists but her condition only grew worse. He was heartbroken, for he loved her more than his own life. When Lynn knew that she was not getting well, she said to father, "When I get to Heaven, I will ask Jesus to remove a paling from Heaven's gate so I can look through to see you come … Daddy, I will be looking out for you every day. Promise, you won't be long." Then she fell asleep, safe in the arms of Jesus.
Father's heart was melted by his child's words. He realized that in his sins he will find himself in hell when he dies. He repented of his sins in Christ. He yielded to the Saviour and became an earnest believer, like his daughter. God in mercy had used the death of an only child to save him.
Dear reader, God's Heaven has a place for those who believe. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father but by me" (Jn 14:6). Like a loving Father longing for his child, God is waiting for you to turn to Him. Don't be long — come to the Saviour without delay. Believe on Him and be saved — today.
The Home Over There
(D W C Huntington)
O think of the Home over there,
By the side of the river of light,
Where the saints, all immortal and fair,
Are robed in their garments of white.
Over there, over there,
O think of the Home over there,
Over there, over there, over there,
O think of the Home over there.
If God is a God of love, will He not save everyone in the end? Lord, I believe. Please write my name in Thy Book of Life.
God bless you, dear readers.
Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,
Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
