My dear readers,
(Excerpt from Building Firm Foundations, Dr SH Tow)
1. ETERNAL LIFE INSURANCE
WHEN I asked the young man what he was selling, he said, "Life insurance." "That's not life insurance, surely. That's death insurance!"
"What do you mean?"
"You have to die to win.
"Not really. You get your money back with good interest in 10, 15 or 20 years if you live. In these days of rampant inflation and high income tax, this is wise investment. But if you die, your family is provided for. You can be assured that your wife and children will be protected for a number of years. You can't beat that for security! Say, by the way, what are you selling?
"Life insurance too, but of a different sort — eternal life insurance. Nothing to pay, and you receive unlimited dividends immediately."
"No kidding!"
"No I'm serious. Eternal life insurance is serious business. It concerns everybody. The Author of life, Jesus Christ, makes you an offer: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life" (John 5:24).
Dear reader, our Lord Jesus is concerned not only with our spiritual welfare, but He is very much concerned with our day-to-day necessities as well. Not only is He interested, but He is able to supply all our temporal needs as well. But He wants us to have our priorities right. Jesus said, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall (that you need for your daily life) shall be added unto you" (Matt 6:36). This is the best insurance — everlasting life insurance in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Life.
In The New Jerusalem
(Timothy Tow)
We're a pilgrim band now headed
for the glory land of light.
We are trav'ling thro’ the
wilderness of night.
We've a home that's far away
beyond the heaven and the stars
In the New Jerusalem!
Hallelujah! fills the heavens
for the saints have all come home
To Jerusalem! To Jerusalem!
Joyfully they shout Hosanna!
Come and crown Him King of Kings!
In the New Jerusalem!
Lord, thank Thee for Thy abundant life.
2. Bought with a price
THIS is a true story from the days of American slave trade. A young black girl was being sold by auction. She was tall, slim and attractive. The bidding was keen, and quickly mounted higher and higher. At last only two men were left. One was a lowly uncouth ruffian who swore each time he raised his bid against his competitor, a quiet refined gentleman.
Finally, the bidding stopped and to the gentleman who had bid so earnestly was given the legal document which made him the owner of the girl. With a push the auctioneer roughly presented her to her new master. Proudly and defiantly, she stood before him with contempt on her face and hatred in her eyes.
Then an amazing thing happened. Her new owner took the papers of ownership and tore them into pieces in front of her eyes. Then throwing them on the ground he said kindly, "My dear, I bought you that I might set you free!"
Too stunned for speech, the black girl stood staring in disbelief. Then with a cry of happiness too deep for words, she fell at the white man's feet. Through her tears she exclaimed, "O sir, I am yours! I will serve you all my life!"
My dear reader, there is One who is the kindest, who loves you with an everlasting love. He paid the price to free you from the bondage of Satan — the cruel slave master. He bought you with His own life blood. Will you not also come to Him, and serve Him for life?
God's word says, "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot" (1 Pet 1:18-19). The Saviour has died, the price has been paid in full. Come, trust in Him and He will set you free – free from every bondage of sin.
For ye are bought with a price!
In tenderness He sought me
(Spencer Walton)
O the love that sought me!
O the blood that bought me!
O the grace that brought me to the fold,
Wondrous grace that brought me to the fold!
Why did Christ have to die? Was there no other way to save us?
Lord, make me a faithful follower of the Lamb.
Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,
Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
