Pastoral Chat

My dear readers,

1. Trojan Horse in the Camp - II
(Dr SH Tow, message at Hilltop Ministries 2007)

Text: 2 Peter 1:19-2:3

3. Question: Was Jesus, God the Son, in existence "from everlasting" or "from ancient times"?

Is there a difference? KJB has it right, but NIV perverts the text with a subtle change:

NIV’s "from ancient times," means that our Lord Jesus was no different from Noah or Abraham or any of the patriarchs, a mere human like you and me.

Comment: NIV has destroyed our Lord’s DEITY ( "from everlasting").

4. The KJB teaches that "… we have redemption through his blood" (Col 1:14).

NIV’s renderingis unfaithful, removing "through his blood" from the verse. (Satan hates and fears the blood of Jesus, the blood which defeats the evil one.)

5. God’s Word is clear and unchanging: salvation is by faith only in Jesus Christ, and Him alone. Thus in John 6:47, the KJB says, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."

But NIV says something different: "… he who believes has everlasting life," which means that anyone who believes anything or in any other saviour "has everlasting life." This suits the ecumenical agenda.

Comment: The NIV has brought in "another gospel" (Gal 1: 8,9), an accursed false gospel of no salvation.

The few portions of the NIV I have raised are but the tip of the iceberg. But even one attack on the person and work of Jesus, the Son of God, is sufficient to condemn the whole translation as a work of the adversary, a work of the father of lies.

To conclude our study of the NIV, let it be noted, this unfaithful translation harbours within its covers deliberate mis-translations which destroy our Lord’s deity, His eternal pre-existence, His Sonship of God, Virgin Birth, His redemptive work, His blood atonement, His resurrection, ascension, and coming again.

What has been said of the NIV is generally applicable to the other Modern English Versions, in particular to three other versions, namely NEB (New English Bible), RSV (Revised Standard Version) and TEV (Today’s English Version or Good News Bible).

But one Bible stands apart and above all the rest, and we have it: the King James Bible or the Authorized Version, which stands alone, unique, unrivalled, the only inspired Word of God – 100 percent inerrant and infallible, fully preserved through all ages, the Reformation Bible, God’s gift to His faithful remnant people.

By this we labour and soldier on – till He come. Amen.

2. Will our Sons defend the Faith? – I

(Dr SH Tow, message at Hilltop Ministries 2007)

The perilous end times foretold in God’s Word are well and truly come upon Planet Earth. Everywhere candlesticks which once burned have been extinguished, removed by the One who says, "Thou hast left thy first love" (Rev 2:4). Darkness prevails except for a flame here, a flicker there, where God’s remnant few hold fast the faithful Word against the fast gathering ecumenical gloom. How few are those who have not left their first love!

But in every age of decline God does not leave Himself without a witness. In every situation God has His man: in Egypt Moses stood against the Pharaoh; on Mt Carmel Elijah withstood the priests of Baal; in Babylon Daniel walked in the lions’ den. In the New Testament Church Age, the Apostle Paul stood before Rome’s Governors, loyal to His Lord. God’s witness to the truth is never extinguished, not even in today’s universal darkness.

Thirty years ago, during the heyday of Billy Graham Crusades and ecumenical co-operative evangelism, a warning protest came from Rev Dan Ebert III from the Philippines: "Will our sons defend the faith?" In Singapore we stood against the Billy Graham Crusade at the National Stadium in 1978. Rev Dan Ebert’s book was a timely boost to our meager forces.

In his Author’s Introduction (1976), Rev Dan Ebert III wrote:

"… It was with extreme regret and heaviness of heart that the section on Neo-Evangelicalism was written. But the confusion sown on the mission fields of Asia today makes an exposition on the dangers of compromise with unbelief a great necessity. These portions are written with the prayer that some of the Master’s sheep might be spared from the apostasy with which many Christian leaders are now so openly in fellowship …"

The same concern over the rising tide of the apostasy was expressed by the sons, Bill and Dan IV. Rev Bill Ebert wrote: "… today, in 1992 during the 12th year of my missionary service, the desire for my own children, both physical and spiritual, to defend the faith holds a major place in my heart and mind. I learned the importance of standing firmly for the truths of the Scripture from my father, the author of Will our Sons Defend The Faith. My prayer is that in this same way the message of this book will touch the lives of many of God’s people causing them also to stand firm for the basic doctrinal truths of the Scripture." (To be continued)

Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,

Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
