My dear readers,
(Excerpts from Daily Remembrancer, Dr SH Tow)
1. "Behold the Lamb of God!" John 1:36
(November 10 MORNING)
"THE LAMB OF GOD WHICH TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD." God’s Lamb and none other could take away our sin. Sin requiresa sacrifice, and the sacrifice must befit the offence and the dignity of the offended. For man, the offender, such a sacrifice could not be found for what sacrifice could sinful man offer to God that is sufficient and acceptable to Him to take away his life of innumerable sins? Only when God condescended to provide one, which was none other than His only begotten Son, the Lamb of God could. From heaven He came to purge away our sin, to fulfil the requirement of divine law and reconcile us to God. Let us daily look to the Lamb of God, who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifested in these last times for us. He is set forth to be the propitiation for our sins through faith in His blood, and to be the daily object of our faith, desire, and affection. On the cross He offered to God the perfect atonement, that we might have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins. The Lamb is to be remembered daily before God by us, in our prayers and praises. May all our expectations be founded upon what He is, what He has done for us, and what He is doing now before the throne of God. In our quest for acceptance with God, offer no other plea. Only, "Behold the Lamb of God!"
Cast thy guilty soul on Him,
Find Him mighty to redeem;
At His feet thy burden lay,
Bid thy doubts and fears away;
Now by faith the Son embrace,
Plead His promise, trust His grace.
2. "Behold, thy salvation cometh" Isa 62:11
(October 20 MORNING)
"BEHOLD, HIS REWARD IS WITH HIM. And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the Lord." The Lord’s people may be sorely tried and often cast down; but the present is the worst state they will ever be in; they are hastening to the day of God, which is to them the day of deliverance. Their salvation is on the way: they will soon be freed from all disease which they now suffer; from all sin, under which they now groan; from all foes, of whom they are now afraid; and from all cares and troubles, with which they are now burdened. Beloved, why are you so fearful, and why do desponding thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold, your salvation cometh; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him. He will free you from all that pains you, and raise you above all fear. The time of deliverance is at hand, the year of release is near; the trumpet of the Jubilee will soon be heard; our Saviour will arrive to lead us to our Father's house, to the mansions which He has prepared for us, and so shall we be ever with the Lord. Comfort one another with these words, "Behold, the bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet Him!"
Jesus beckons from on high,
Fearless to His presence fly
Thine the merits of His blood,
Thine the righteousness of God!
Rise His triumphs to adorn,
Meet thy God, O glorious morn!
3. "Call His name Jesus" Mt 1:21
(December 17 EVENING)
"FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS." That is what "Jesus" means, for He only is the Saviour sent from God. He deserves the name for that was His sole purpose when He came to earth. For us He fulfilled the law, was made a curse, and atoned for our sins that He might save us. Now He lives and pleads in heaven for us. He can save any character. He will save all people who turn to Him in faith. He does save all who come to God by Him. He has saved myriads, and He will save myriads more. He saves freely, by an act of grace. He saves fully, from all evil to all good. He saves eternally, and finally, placing His people beyond the possibility of perishing. He saves consistently, with all the perfections of God's nature. He saves without violating any of the principles of the divine government. He saves for His own glory, in obedience to His Father's will, out of pure love to His depraved people. My soul, call Him Jesus, for He has saved you. Tell all around that He is Jesus, and can save them as well. He is the only, the all-sufficient, the omnipotent Saviour. He saves though all hell opposes; He saves though some may be ungrateful; He saves though those He saves may doubt and distrust Him. He is now exalted at God's right hand, to continue His saving work as our Advocate and Intercessor.
Trust in His name, and thou shalt know
The bliss of sins forgiven;
Saved from the curse of earth below,
Into thy house in heaven.
4. "A Prince and a Saviour" Acts 5:31
(November 1 EVENING)
"TO GIVE REPENTANCE AND FORGIVENESS OF SINS," by His sacrifice on the cross. The Man of Sorrows is now raised to princely dignity. He is seated at the Father's right hand. He has all power in heaven and in earth. Every knee must bow to Him for He is Lord of all, the Prince of Peace, the KING OF KINGS. He has a princely heart. He possesses all the wealth of the universe. He bestows in a princely manner. But He is also a Saviour, a princely Saviour. He saves by His own merit, by His own power, for His own glory. He saves freely. He never barters with sinners, but bestows salvation upon the lost as a princely gift. He can save to the uttermost. He will save every applicant. He came into our world to save sinners. He agonised in Gethsemane and died on Calvary to save sinners. He is now exalted at God's right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. Go to Jesus as to a benevolent Prince. Go to Him as a powerful, kind, and willing Saviour, whose work and delight is to save even the chief of sinners. Honour Him by trusting His word, relying on His blood, and expecting salvation as a free gift at His hands.
In Thy state of exaltation,
Lord extend Thy grace to me;
Give me free and full salvation,
Prince and Saviour, praise to Thee!
Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,
Dr SH Tow, Sr Pastor
