January 4 Evening: "All things are yours" - 1 Cor 3:21

IN CHRIST OUR LORD WE HAVE AN EVERLASTING INHERITANCE IN HEAVEN. My beloved brethren, God hath chosen us, the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He hath promised to them that love Him. What a paradox is this, poor yet rich, as having nothing, yet possessing all things! All things are ours, for our use and benefit, to enjoy even when we do not actually possess; made over to us in covenant, secured to us in promises, to be realized and enjoyed by faith, to claim and possess by-and-by. We shall have all that is really needful in time, and the whole when Jesus shall appear the second time without sin unto salvation. We are heirs of God, and joint-heirs with our Lord Jesus Christ; and whether we reflect on things temporal or spiritual, things present or future, things painful or pleasant, things on earth or in heaven, we may justly say, "All things are ours." God is ours, our portion; Jesus is ours, our Bridegroom; the Holy Spirit is ours, our Comforter; earth is ours, our school-room; heaven is ours, our eternal home. But do we believe this? Can we lie down tonight on our pillows and say with confidence, in Christ all things are mine? If so, it may be well said to us, "I know your poverty, but you are rich."

For Meditation:
God is our joy and portion still,
When earthly good retires;
He will our hearts sustain and fill,
When earth itself expires.
