February 3 Evening: "I press toward the mark" - Php 3:14

WE ARE ALL IN A RACE OF LIFE. We have a prize set before us, even the perfection of knowledge and holiness. Our course is marked out by God's holy word. It lies through difficulties, enemies, and trials. We have a mark on which to fix our eyes, at which we should daily strive. Our mark is the Lord in his holy exemplary life. We aim to be like Him, to oppose sin, resist Satan, overcome the world, endure troubles and trials, and do good. Our Lord ran His race, keeping in view "the joy set before Him." He made His mark, won His crown, and is now seated in glory at God's right hand. He is our pattern and example. On Him the eye and the heart should be fixed; after conformity to Him we should press, laying aside every weight of besetting sin. Let us run the race set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Like the apostle, let us pursue one object without wavering, and press toward the mark. This will ensure the prize, for Jesus says, "To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne." To that mark, press on!

For Meditation:
The moment we begin our race,
We must the Saviour's cause embrace,
Press for the mark, the prize obtain,
And then with Christ in glory reign.
