"LOOKING FOR THE MERCY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST." He loves us with an everlasting love, so free, boundless, pure and strong. Our love to God is so feeble, and dependent on His love to us as its source. Like a flame, it needs faith and fellowship with Him as its fuel, to keep it fervent and burning hot. Beloved, let us keep ourselves in the love of God. While that love was freely given, it cost God most dearly, even the life-blood of His Son. Then we should endeavour to show our gratitude in return, to stand fast, and keep ourselves faithful, firmly grounded in that wonderful love of God. Let us hold it always before our eyes, exercise our faith on it, and prove the power of it by obeying His word and walking in His ways. If our love for God is genuine, we should keep ourselves pure for His use, avoiding temptations, denying every fleshly lust, walking and living as in His presence. We should exercise brotherly love one to another by forbearance, charity and kindly example, keeping ourselves in the love of God from the wiles of Satan, the snares of the world, and the lusts of the flesh. Beloved, may the love of God fire us with holy determination to oppose everything that is ungodly and unlawful. Only then can we prove our love for Him.
For Meditation:
O God of love, how great Thou art!
Here I return my blood-bought heart
Cleansed and made pure for Thee.
Help me, by godly life, to prove
The power of redeeming love,
Of Christ who died for me.
