THE LORD HAS LOVED US WITH AN EVERLASTING LOVE. What have we done for Him? Are we not His people? The Lord expects to be honoured by His people, but how often do we lose sight of this important duty. We should honour Him, by prompt obedience, as Matthew did; by active faith, as Abraham did; by patient suffering, as Job did; by an honest testimony, as Peter did; by glowing love, as John did; by fervent zeal, as Paul and the holy martyrs did. Beloved, would you honour God? Then trust His providence. Always act as under His eye. Prefer His children to all others. Assist the extension of His kingdom. Hasten to do His commandments. Seek above all things to advance His glory. If you do not, He may well ask, "Where is mine honour?" But if you would honour God in an acceptable manner, seek diligently to know more of His character. Be fully reconciled to Him through Jesus; live daily as in His presence; gratefully acknowledge His authority; in everything consult His revealed will; study to please Him always. Never forget the words of the Lord: them that honour me I will honour.
For Meditation:
O God my Father, didst Thou claim
So vile a sinner for a son?
Thy highest honour is my aim,
Thy will by me shall e'er be done.
