October 19 Evening: "His compassions fail not" - Lam 3:22

"THEY ARE NEW EVERY MORNING: GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS." God's mercy and compassion are unspeakable and unfailing. The sympathy of friends and the affection of family may fail. The mother's tender love may fail. But the compassion of our God never fails. God's ocean of mercies can never be exhausted. His sun of warmth and tenderness never sets, although it may be obscured for a time, but its light and glory are never diminished. Believer, thy God never was more compassionate than He is this night. His promise was never more true. As it applies to His most favoured ones, it applies no less to thee. Turn from thy broken cisterns, thy withered gourds, thy dried brook, thy gloomy feelings, thy painful circumstances, and turn to thy God, confident in this, that, "His compassions fail not." As Jesus had compassion on the multitudes which followed Him, because they had nothing to eat, He will surely have compassion on you in your poverty and need. He will bear with your infirmities, pardon your sins, sanctify your sorrows, soothe your griefs, restore your soul, guide you with His counsel, and afterwards receive you to glory: for His compassions fail not.

For Meditation:
Though dismayed by doubts and fears,
Though distressed by countless cares,
Though most deadly foes assail,
God's compassions never fail.
