July 21 Evening: "Ye are come ... to the blood of sprinkling" - Heb 12:22, 24

ON THE CROSS THE SAVIOUR BLED FOR US. His blood was shed for sin and sprinkled on the sinner; the former action made atonement, the latter declared the sinner clean. The blood of Jesus is the blood of sprinkling. It has made peace for sinners. It speaks peace to sinners. It cleanses from all sin, and it does this meritoriously, efficaciously, infallibly. It heals the wounded conscience, perfumes our services, and confirms the covenant. It secures us, as the blood of the passover secured the Israelites; and it satisfies the claims of infinite justice. It procured pardon for the guilty, life for the dead, redemption for the captive, and grace for graceless sinners. As believers we come to this blood of sprinkling. We come to trust in it, for it alone procures us acceptance with God. We come to prove it and enjoy the blessedness that results from it. We come to plead it that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. We come to rejoice in it, for it is a source of comfort, consolation, and joy. We come by faith. We come whenever distressed by guilt, disturbed by fears, assailed by Satan, stressed by want, and faced by death. The blood of sprinkling is God's answer to every need.

For Meditation:
Upon the cross my Saviour hung,
Shedding His precious blood;
And every drop is like a tongue
Pleading my cause with God.
