"TAKE THE WORLD BUT GIVE ME JESUS." On earth the only thing that is certain is change. But in the midst of change, our Lord Jesus remains the same, unchanging, unchanged. Many things change or pass away, such as health, wealth, comforts, relatives, youth, vigour, prosperity. But whatever changes, Jesus is the same. He is the same in his nature, which is love; in His purpose towards us, which is grace; in His promises, which are faithful; in His offices, as priest, intercessor, King. Jesus is the same in His blood, which is always efficacious; in His relations, for He is Father, Brother, Husband, Friend. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Here is a suitable motto for us: Jesus only, as my plea at the throne of grace; as the object of my faith, desire, and confidence; as my hope and ground of acceptance with God; as my pattern and example; as my joy and song; as my King and lawgiver; as my all in all. Let us endeavour to keep the eye and the heart always on Jesus. Let us remember that whether dark cloud or bright sunshine, it makes no change in Him. Jesus only sweetens and sanctifies all bereavements, and preserves from the snares of prosperity.
For Meditation:
Take the world, but give me Jesus -
All its joy are but a name;
But His love abideth ever,
Through eternal years the same.
O the height and depth of mercy!
O the length and breadth of love!
O the fullness of redemption -
Pledge of endless life above!
