September 17 Morning: "Fight the good fight of faith" - 1 Tim 6:12

"FOR WE WRESTLE NOT AGAINST FLESH AND BLOOD." From this warfare there is no discharge until final victory has been won. This warfare is to be fought by faith: by faith we contend with the deep depravity of the heart, with falsehood and superstition, with despondency, unbelief and carnal reason, with Satan and the world at large. Thank God for the gift of faith. Faith fights on to victory, for a crown and for God's glory. It fights in God's strength, with confidence founded on the promises of God, with holy fear, aided by grace which is sufficient for our weakness. Faith fights with courage received on the knees, with hands uplifted in prayer, and eyes looking to the Captain of our salvation, the author and finisher of our faith. Christian, "fight the good fight of faith!" your God bids thee. His promises are your best encouragement, His own Son your best example. The coward is doomed! So tell yourself, "Be brave, fear not, fight on, be strong in the Lord. Through conflict comes conquest!" Our Lord says, "To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne." By faith we shall overcome.

For Meditation:
Almighty Saviour, my Jesus, my King,
For courage and valour to Thee I would cling;
O gracious Captain, my doubting dispel,
Fit me for conflict, to fight and excel;
For Thee my Saviour, I'll do valiantly,
To Thee blest Jesus, may all glory be.
