Daily Remembrancer

September 23 Evening: "Wherein hast Thou loved us?" - Mal 1:2

"I HAVE LOVED YOU, SAITH THE LORD." Israel may deny it, and therein is the proof of an ungrateful people. They say, "Wherein hast Thou loved us?" These words only speak out what many feel within. Do you also ask, Wherein has the Lord loved me? Look at the gifts He has conferred upon you: His Son to die for you; His Spirit to quicken, teach, and sanctify you; His ordinances to revive and refresh you; His angels to minister unto you; His covenant and oath to secure you; His glorious kingdom to be eternally possessed and enjoyed by you. Look at the interest He has in you: He calls you by His love, the dearly beloved of His soul, His jewel, His crown, His dear son. If He compare you with the world, you are gold, apart from the world's dross: you are wheat, not chaff; you are sheep, not goats. Look at the relationship he sustains to you: as a Father, Husband, Brother, Friend. Think of the offices He fills for you: Advocate, Captain, Head, King. Look at what He has already done for you: clothed you with His righteousness, conferred on you His pardon, given you His peace, acts as your Mediator, blesses you with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Surely you will exclaim, "His love is wonderful, beyond compare and marvellous beyond expression."

For Meditation:
Lord, give to me a grateful heart,
Thy mercies to receive;
And daily Thy great love impart
That others may believe.
