November 4 Evening: "My God shall be my strength" - Isa 49:5

"I WILL ALSO GIVE THEE FOR A LIGHT TO THE GENTILES." These words speak of the coming of Jesus the Messiah of promise. He lived by faith on His Father's word. He was deeply tried by his Father's enemies. But He lived by the Father and we too should live by Him. We are loved with the same love, interested in the same covenant and entitled to the same promises. Let us in trials, severe conflicts, distressing circumstances, and the approach of the last enemy, say, "My God shall be my strength." For He has said, "I will strengthen thee." And when we feel weakest let faith be strongest, for He says, "My strength is made perfect in weakness." God has been our strength, and it is only with His help that we continue to this day. Let us therefore trust Him for the future, and say when faced with any task, or when about to engage with any foe, "I will go in the strength of the Lord, I will make mention of His righteousness, even of His only." If God is my strength, then I shall overcome, I shall persevere, I shall arrive safe at home. Then I shall praise his sovereign grace for evermore. Let us lie down tonight rejoicing in our privilege, exercising our thoughts upon this glorious fact, "My God is my strength."

For Meditation:
What if the springs of life were broke,
And flesh and heart should faint?
God is my soul's eternal rock,
The strength of every saint.
