"HITHERTO HAVE I DECLARED THY WONDROUS WORKS." The Psalmist was called early and he ascribes it to divine teaching. None but God can teach us experimentally; and His lessons are always good and profitable. He teaches all His disciples to know themselves, their depravity, poverty, and bondage. He teaches them His law: its purity, its claims and penalty. He teaches them His gospel: its power to save all who believe, freely by grace through faith. He teaches them to know Himself as a reconciled God, their Father and Friend. His teaching is accompanied with power and authority. Are we taught of God? We may know divine teaching by its fruits: it always produces humility, dependence upon the Lord, abhorrence of sin, love to God, obedience to His law, and daily delight in Jesus. Let us earnestly seek divine teaching. It alone preserves from dangers, sorrows, and snares, and by Holy Spirit working, it brings glory to God, and honour to the cause of Chirst. Lord, evermore teach me, and make me wholly Thine!
For Meditation:
O let my heart be wholly Thine,
Make it Thy holy throne;
No longer let me think it mine,
Or call myself my own.
