"WHOSE END IS DESTRUCTION ... WHO MIND EARTHLY THINGS." Enemies of the cross are building their counterfeit "Kingdom of God," not according to the gospel of the cross of Christ, but according to another gospel, which is not gospel. It is a "social gospel" founded not on Christ the Lord but on doctrines of devils. Against this the apostle Paul ceased not to warn everyone night and day with tears. The cross of Christ is the Christian's glory. It embraces the whole doctrine of salvation by grace, and is viewed by the Christian as the foundation of his hope, and the object of his faith; it is the gospel of truth, the subject of the Church's song; it is the key that opens the gates of the celestial paradise and everlasting life; it is the destruction of death, the object of the angels' wonder, and the cause of the devil's doom. Beloved, let us fix our eyes and hearts upon this glorious object, the cross of Christ. Let us love it, preach it, for it is the power of God and the wisdom of God, to them which are saved. Let us say with the Apostle Paul: "God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of my Lord Jesus Christ; by which the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world."
