"THEY SHALL CALL THEM THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD." Such are the people of God. He convinces them of sin, sets their hearts against sin, so they give up the practice of sin. God chose them to be holy. Jesus gave Himself for them that they might be made holy. The Holy Spirit takes possession of them, in order to make them fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Holiness becomes their object and delight. They sigh for it, seek it, and endeavour to practice it. They were once impure, but now washed in the blood of the Lamb, they are sanctified; they are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of God. Justification lies at the root of sanctification. If a man is justified, he will be sanctified; it is only by sanctification, that he proves his justification. In vain we talk of sin being pardoned, if it is not subdued. The man who lives in sin is neither just nor holy; he gives no evidence of interest in Jesus, or that he is a partaker of the Holy Spirit. All holy persons discover their unholiness, mourn over it, pray to be delivered from it, strive against it, and long to be perfectly free from all that defiles. Such are the holy people, the redeemed of the Lord. Reader, are you holy in the Lord?
For Meditation:
Jehovah is a holy God;
Christ will alone the pure confess;
His saints are holy, and the road
To heaven, is that of holiness.
