"THAT YE SHOULD DO AS I HAVE DONE TO YOU." Are you prepared to copy our Lord's example? Do you study it? Do you admire it? Do you heartily desire exactly to imitate it? In vain do you hope to be saved by His sacrifice if you do not follow His example. He left us an example that we should follow in His steps. Look at His faith in His Father's word, His love to His Father's name, His zeal for His Father's glory, His submission to His Father's will, His diligence in His Father's work. Look at His love to His people, His patience, His forbearance, His longsuffering, His pity, His tenderness, His self denial, His faithfulness, His humility, His meekness, His sympathy, His readiness to help. Look at His pity for sinners. Hear Him pray for them. See Him weep over them. Observe how He seeks to bless them, how He stoops to them, how patiently He endures their contradiction against Himself. He is your example. You are daily to imitate Him. You should every evening compare your conduct through the day with His. It would do you good often to ask, How would Jesus act in this case? O to copy His example daily - exactly! Holy Spirit descend and give me power!
