HE SHALL ARISE WITH HEALING IN HIS WINGS. This speaks of our Lord Jesus. There is but one Sun, and our Jesus is the one and only Saviour. This figure sets forth His greatness, His exalted station, His sufficiency, His beauty and glory, His immutability, His power, and that He is a blessing common to all. He is the Sun of righteousness. This implies the perfection and excellency of His person, the rectitude of His government, the relation in which He stands to His people: He is their righteousness. He is the source of holiness, for He wrought out that obedience by which we are justified. As there is light enough in the sun for us all, so there is righteousness enough in Jesus for us all. As the light of the sun flows to us freely, so Jesus gives His righteousness freely. As it would be folly to look to any other quarter for light while the sun is shining, so it is folly to look anywhere for righteousness, but to Jesus only. As the sun decks creation with beauty and glory, so the righteousness of Jesus makes us beautiful and glorious. Sun of righteousness, may we walk in Thy light, receive Thy warm embrace, and point sinners to Thee for life and peace!
For Meditation:
Christ whose glory fills the skies,
Christ the true and only light,
Sun of righteousness, arise,
Triumph o'er the shades of night;
Dayspring from on high be near,
Daystar in my heart appear.
