October 2 Evening: "We are more than conquerors" - Rom 8:37

ALL BECAUSE CHRIST OUR LORD HAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD. Now at the right hand of God He makes intercession for us to give us the victor y. This is marvellous. For the believer has to contend with all that is depraved in his nature, with all that is opposed to God in the world, with all that is unholy in his family. He has to contend with many painful and trying workings of God, with Satan his grand adversary, and also with sickness and death. But through Christ he overcomes. It is through the One who loves him: that is, through Jesus. The love of Jesus is his solace, his comfort, and his encouragement. The loving Jesus supplies him with grace, strength, and wisdom, and by these he overcomes. He conquers by faith in Christ. He overcomes all by patience, fortitude, and confidence in his Saviour. He overcomes all and arises from the battle uninjured. He overcomes and is benefitted by the contest. He obtains a great and complete victory, and will at length be possessed of the spoils, and crowned as the conqueror. No one can overcome but by Jesus. But if united to Him, if living by faith in Him, if copying His example, we shall not only overcome, but are more than conquerors. Believer, expect opposition. Christian, see your dependence: it is on the wisdom, power, care and intervention of Jesus.

For Meditation:
Conformed to our Head in suff'ring and stress,
Oppressed and in grief, in pain and disgrace;
Rejoicing in hope, we triumphantly prove,
We're more than conqu'rers through Jesus' great love.
