October 4 Evening: "Ye are the salt of the earth" - Mt 5:13

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT HAS PRECIOUS LESSONS FOR US. Our Lord Jesus is the perfect Teacher: hear ye Him. Sin has rendered the salt unsavoury and exposed it to destruction. Only grace and truth can restore it to purity and order. These come by Jesus Christ and they are retained and utilised by His people. He compares His saints to salt. They season and preserve others. Every Christian is a grain of salt. He should affect for good all around him. His principles are to influence and his character to improve and instruct. The earth without the saints would go down to putrefaction and destruction. Beloved, are you good seasoning to those around you? Is your conversation always with grace, seasoned with salt, that it may minister grace unto the hearers? Do you diffuse what you possess? Do you possess what you profess? Who is the better because of you? Does your Christian influence spread silently and penetrate deeply, like that of salt in nature? Or, have you only a form of godliness without the power thereof? If a Christian, you must benefit all with whom you are in contact; you will not live unto yourself, but unto Him that died for you and rose again. If salt is present, it will show itself; and so will grace. Be salt for God!

For Meditation:
‘Tis to my Saviour I would live,
To Him who for my ransom died;
Nor could untainted Eden give
Such bliss as blossoms at His side.
