OUR EMMANUEL IS WITH US, ON OUR SIDE. He ensures that all the perfections of Jehovah's nature are arrayed for our defence and safety. He is engaged by covenant, by promise, and by oath, to support, supply, and befriend us. He is for us, engaged in our cause, opposed to our enemies, pledged to deliver us in six troubles, and not forsake us in the seventh. We may challenge our foes, for God is with us; what then is man? What are devils? Let us appreciate our safety, happiness, and honour; the Lord omnipotent is our ally. We should be grateful, for what is our desert? What do we possess? What were our expectations? What has God promised? We may triumph in Christ but only in Christ: if God be for us, then supplies shall certainly be sent us. If God be for us, men or devils shall never prevail against us. If God be for us, we shall overcome the world, conquer death, and inherit eternal glory. But if God is for us, who then shall harm us? What then shall alarm or terrify us? God is ours; we are God's. This is our honour, our happiness, our victory and, our glory.
