"SEARCH ME, O GOD, AND KNOW MY HEART." Self examination is necessary for God's people. We too seldom search our own hearts, or examine our conduct in the light of God's word. Let us tonight ask ourselves a few serious questions. What have I done against the Lord? Have I broken His law or doubted His gospel? Have I grieved His Spirit or slighted His beloved Son? Have I murmured at His providence or opposed His will? Have I neglected His ordinances or rebelled against His sovereignty? Have I doubted His love or questioned His faithfulness? Have I forsaken Him the fountain of living waters and preferred His creatures to Himself? What have I done for the Lord? Have I visited His sick and relieved His poor? Have I instructed His ignorant ones and encouraged the desponding? Have I assisted His ministers and filled my place in His church? Have I pleaded with sinners and endeavoured to restore backsliders to His fold? Have I kept His glory in view and sought to advance His kingdom in the world? What have I done for my Lord with my means, my opportunities, my professions? Holy Spirit, help me come up with honest answers.
For Meditation:
Lord, with this guilty heart of mine
To Thy dear cross I flee;
And to Thy grace my soul resign,
To be renewed by Thee.
