GOD LOOKS TO BLESS, EVEN AS A FATHER LOOKS UPON HIS CHILD. One look of our heavenly Father is enough to relieve us in our deepest distresses, to rescue us from our greatest difficulties, and to fill us with peace and joy. The Lord's look will discover us if we are wrong; it will confirm and establish us if we are right. His look humbled Job, strengthened Gideon, brought Peter to repentance, and filled dying Stephen with joy and peace. To look upon us is to show us favour. "To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." If we would have God look down upon us, we must look up to Him. If we would have Him look upon us and be gracious unto us, we must look to Him in prayer and with faith. Beloved, are you desiring that the eye of God should rest upon you? If He should look upon you in mercy, His look will dispel your fears, disperse your darkness, and fill you with light and holy confidence. Is it too much to ask? It is not too much for God to give! But it is much for us to receive. It betokens reconciliation and His interest in us. His look imparts blessings beyond measure.
For Meditation:
O look upon Thy servant, Lord,
And pardon, peace, and joy afford;
May I with Thy sweet presence blest,
This night enjoy refreshing rest!
