WE ARE STRANGERS AND PILGRIMS IN THE EARTH. Our days are but a shadow and here we have no abiding city. We are born from above and are bound for Glory Land. We are far from home where our Father, our kindred, our treasure, and our hearts are. Here on earth we have no fixed residence, nor should we, for the whole world lies in darkness, and we can have no fellowship with its unfruitful evil works, but rather reprove them. We are called to suffer many inconveniences. The Bible is our light, our food, our joy, and our directory. We need a guide, a guard, a companion, a comforter; our Lord Jesus alone fills each of these offices. We should pray for the peace of the country of our sojourn; we should not meddle in its affairs, but keep separate, for God. We should be thankful for every blessing, and set our affections on things above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall we also appear with Him in glory. Until that day, let us mortify our members and daily walk with the Lord, watching unto prayer, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God. Let us confess that we are strangers and pilgrims on earth.
For Meditation:
In heav'n I have a mansion fair,
My Lord has gone on to prepare
For me that lasting home;
Let not your heart be troubled now,
Nor let earth's sorrows cloud thy brow;
For rest in Jesus, come!
