July 29 Evening: "Let us draw near hither unto God" - 1 Sam 14:36

BY NATURE WE ARE FAR FROM GOD. BY GRACE WE ARE BROUGHT NIGH. In prayer we meet with God at the throne of grace. This is every believer's privilege which some neglect to their greatest loss. But we must not, for Jesus our great High Priest is passed into the heavens, at God the Father's right hand, and He bids us draw near. This we must do, and often, for it is the Father's will that we pray and not faint, no matter what our problem is, or how bleak the outlook seems. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, and pour out our burdens and sorrows and requests before Him. There we shall obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. This is the promise of God's word, and God's word is faithful. Let us draw nigh with confidence, as dear children; with reverence, as repenting sinners; with thankful hearts, as filial sons and daughters. Let us draw near many times a day, in our closets in secret, at work, when travelling, wherever we are. Whenever we draw near to God, He draws near to us.

For Meditation:
I am Thine, O Lord -
I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
