August 20 Morning: "The Lord preserveth all them that love Him" - Ps 145:20

ALL WHO KNOW THE LORD LOVE HIM. None can love Him except they are taught by His Spirit. If we know God in Christ as our covenant God, and enjoy our interest in Him, we shall love Him supremely, above our natural relations, earthly possessions, gifts and reputation. We discover in Him greater glory, infinte worth, pre-eminent beauty, and unsurpassed excellence. Those who love Him are preserved by Him. He preserves them in trouble from its ill effects, from the world's spirit and doom, and from enemies near and far. His lovingkindness and truth will continually preserve them; yea, He will preserve them unto His kingdom and glory. But He preserves us in every circumstance. Let us therefore walk before Him, confide in Him, wait upon Him. Let us enquire of our own hearts, "Do we truly love the Lord? Are we desiring to love Him? Are we preserved from sin, the world, and all evil?" If so, we must ascribe it to free and sovereign grace; if not, let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. He bids us come.

For Meditation:
Infinite grace! celestial charms,
Witness in awe ye lofty skies!
Jesus, the Son, extends His arms,
Hangs on the cross of shame and dies;
Such sacrifice my passions move:
This heart can scarce fathom God's love.
