August 25 Morning: "The Spirit also helpeth our infirmities" - Rom 8:26

"I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU COMFORTLESS. I WILL COME TO YOU." Our Lord is ever mindful of our need of Him, for He knows how weak and infirm we are. We are weak as we are ignorant: weak to resist evil, weak to do good, weak to take a stand for that which is right. At the same time we are beset with infirmities of body and mind: uncontrolled indulgences, worldliness, carnal lust, proud temper, indiscipline. For all this, our Lord Jesus does not give up on us but He is touched with the feeling of our infirmities, and sends us the Holy Spirit to assist us. He teaches us what to seek for, points us to God's precious promises and to the throne of grace where He excites us to pray, and assists us in prayer. He implants the ardent heart desire, and power to wrestle in prayer. At times we know not what we should pray for as we ought. It is then that the Holy Spirit comes to our aid, making intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered, but nevertheless effective before God. Thank God for His Spirit's help. Let us daily seek the Spirit to help our infirmities.

For Meditation:
Spirit of interceding grace,
I know not how or what to pray;
Relieve my utter helplessness,
Thy power into my heart convey;
That God, acknowledging my groan,
May answer, in my prayers, His own.
