THE ARM OF FLESH IS A VAIN THING FOR ANY MAN TO TRUST. But the arm of the Lord is an everlasting arm. It is energized by omnipotence, directed by infinite wisdom, and clothed with tenderest love. It is stretched out for us to lean upon, to work for us and secure every needful supply; to fight for us and defend us from our foes. It is stretched out to carry us when we are unable to go on. It is a Father's arm, the arm of God. It is a Saviour's arm, the arm that sustains heaven and earth. It is our Master's arm, the arm that bars the gates of hell and holds every fallen spirit in check. On this arm we must trust, and not our own. We must be weaned from trusting the arm of flesh, to trust wholly and always on the Lord's. This is approved by the Word, and commanded by our God, that we trust Him in dark and difficult days; that we trust Him for all His precious promises, because when all else beside fails, the everlasting arm of God will uphold them. Let us follow the leadings of His providence, aim at the advancement of His cause, and live dependent on His bounty: this only is the way to true happiness.
