THE MYSTERY HIDDEN!
The term "mystery" (1 Cor 2:7) refers to God’s wisdom and the salvific truth of the gospel. This mystery remains hidden and secret for the natural man (psuchikos), This can be seen in their conduct. Their ways are still in rebellion towards God, and they are totally given to the lusts of their flesh. They have no true spiritual insight and understanding of God’s Word because they are spiritually blind.
Some of these natural men may have great intellect. However, they remain ignorant of spiritual truth for they are not indwelt by the Holy Spirit. They do not know God. One such person is the well-known physicist Stephen Hawking. He may have an IQ of about 160, but he denies the existence of God as per NBC News. He says, "When people ask me if a god created the universe, I tell them that the question itself makes no sense. Time didn’t exist before the big bang, so there is no time for god to make the universe in. It’s like asking directions to the edge of the earth; The Earth is a sphere; it doesn’t have an edge; so looking for it is a futile exercise. We are each free to believe what we want, and it’s my view that the simplest explanation is; there is no god. No one created our universe, and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization: There is probably no heaven, and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that I am extremely grateful." Such is the blindness and foolishness of the natural man!
Sadly in the church, there could be many who profess to be Christians but are actually natural men as seen in the parable of the wheat and the tares (Matt 13:24-30). They may listen to sermons for years, and yet have no inkling of what is being preached. There was a young man who was in church since he was a child. When he attended university, he was exposed to ungodly philosophies. He soon cast doubts on the power of the Holy Scriptures and finally said he did not believe in Christ. The mystery remains hidden from him!
THOUGHT: I must make sure of my salvation.
PRAYER: Lord, hide not Thy truth from me.
