THE MYSTERY REVEALED!

Yesterday, we saw how the mystery of the saving power of the gospel was hidden from those who are natural men. However, the mystery is revealed unto them who are spiritual (pneumatikos). The Corinthian Christians were spiritual men compared to those of the world. They could understand and discern the spiritual things of God’s Word. This is because God had given to them the Holy Spirit to reveal to them the deep treasures of the Holy Scriptures (1 Cor 2:10).

Paul described the Corinthian Christians as "perfect" (teleios) in verse 6. This does not mean that the Corinthian Christians were sinlessly perfect. The term teleios here describes the maturity of the Corinthian saints in comparison with the rest of the world. They were mature in the sense that they knew the mystery of the gospel, which the rest of the world could not perceive. The world may view the saints as foolish, but the saints were the ones who were truly wise. This wisdom cometh not from themselves but from the Holy Spirit. It is not humanly discovered but divinely revealed (John MacArthur).

This truth of the blinding of the minds of the unregenerate, and the illumining of the saints is taught vividly by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 13 when He explained the use of parables in His teachings. "And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given" (Matt 13:10-11).

What a privilege it is to have God’s truth revealed to us! "But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear" (Matt 13:16). This should cause us to be humble and grateful towards our eternal God. Since we are given this privilege to know God’s Word, all the more we must labour to study His Word, and to understand His declared will.

THOUGHT: God opened my eyes to see His truth.
PRAYER: I thank Thee, Lord, for revealing Thy truth to me.
