THE SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE (II)

The Spirit-filled life is not reserved for some select group of Christians. It is for all believers who ask according to God’s will. Our Lord Jesus said, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” (Luke 11:13). We give the best gifts to our children. If so, do you not think God will give us His children the best gift too? “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” (Rom 8:32).

The best gift we children ought to ask of our heavenly Father is His own Holy Spirit. He is ever ready and willing to fill us with the Spirit. But the Spirit will not fill dirty hearts. Unless every unclean and contaminating thing is thoroughly purged, the Spirit will not come to us in full measure. If we truly yearn for the Spirit’s filling we must pray the prayer of King David in Psalm 51:7-11, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.… Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me… take not thy holy spirit from me.” Fill me with thy Spirit. Amen.

As we come to the Lord and confess our need, He cleanses us anew. With every filthy contaminant purged and every heart chamber renewed and made beautiful, the Spirit comes in and fills it. O, what a blessed thought that He who died to redeem me, paid the price of blood to purchase me, should now dwell in my heart by His Spirit filling every chamber! The Spirit-filled heart means the Lord is in full control. This is the greatest blessedness!

THOUGHT: Do I have the “filling of the Spirit”?
PRAYER: Lord, keep me always clean and pure, fit for the Spirit’s filling.
