OUR LORD’S HEALING MINISTRY
Our Lord’s healing ministry was unique. Neither before nor after Him was there anything even remotely like His healing ministry, and no surprise, for there was the Creator-God Himself at work. Men of the world, liberal and modernist theologians, explain away His miracles, not recognizing who He is. Is anything too hard for Him who is the source of life and health?
Why then should anyone doubt the eyewitness accounts of His wondrous acts of healing? That “the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up…” (Matt 11:5)? As we go through the Gospel records we sense the awe and wonderment of the multitudes who saw with their own eyes the Son of God bringing health and healing to countless thousands throughout the length and breadth of the Holy Land.
Read the Gospels for yourself, my friend, and you will notice the characteristics of Jesus’ healing ministry:
– He healed by a word of command, or at a touch.
– The healing was instantaneous and complete.
– All who asked were healed without exception.
– He healed all diseases, functional and organic.
– He healed freely and never for monetary gain.
Why did Jesus heal? Primarily, it was to authenticate His deity and demonstrate His authority over life. Men had to be convinced that He was sent from God. The eyewitness accounts and the written records of our Lord’s miracles of healing were for one purpose: “that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:31). His message of salvation was backed by God bearing Him witness with signs and wonders, and with miracles and mighty deeds.
But the greatest miracle of healing was His own resurrection!
THOUGHT: God the Father has drawn me to the Lord Jesus Christ!
PRAYER: Father, I thank Thee for drawing me to Thy Son Jesus.
