PRAYER AS PART OF FELLOWSHIP

Jesus taught His disciples to pray to the Father. He gave them guidelines on prayer attitudes and taught a sample prayer. Prayer constitutes fellowship with God. This is the kind of fellowship that the Apostle was talking about. The unregenerate heart is destitute of the guidance of the Holy Spirit and cannot have any fellowship with God. The Apostles were called to preach the gospel. Their preaching was aimed at leading lost sinners to the true and living God, so that they might be transformed and have fellowship with God. This is the declaration that John was referring to here.

Knowledge of Christ brings full joy. This real and true joy comes from God. Today many people are preoccupied with what the entertainment industry can offer them. What is offered is the most dominant activity in all media outlets. The so-called celebrities who run the industry are idols of many young people. It is needful that God’s children occupy themselves with seeking God and making Him their true God. This is when they will find that needed joy. It comes by walking close to God through His Word. In Joshua 1:8, God told Joshua, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Prayer goes hand in hand with the reading of God’s Word, and it becomes a real dialogue with our Creator. Without Christ, there is no peace and there is no meaningful joy.

THOUGHT: I must watch and pray to sustain my fellowship with God.
PRAYER: Lord, let me find joy in Thee alone.
