GOD’S WORD QUICKENS
To quicken is to make alive or to revive. Some eloquent men have the gift of the gab. They can move men, rousing them into action. Their words can command and deceive people to believe their lies. But God’s Word is far more powerful. This Word can raise a dead person to life, not just physical life but life everlasting. The testimony of the psalmist proves that he has never forgotten God’s Word for that is what makes him alive.
Never forget the Word: An event that is very important sticks with us and we continue to remember it. The most important time of my life which I will never forget is the day I received the Christ of the Bible as my Lord and Saviour. It was unforgettable because it was the day when I was made alive spiritually. It is made possible by the Word preached to me. The Spirit of God used the Word to convict me of my sins and to cause me to realise I needed a Saviour in the person of the God-man, Jesus Christ. Without the Word, I would never have seen myself as hell-bound and under the great wrath of God. That is a day I will never forget.
Quickened by the Word: The Word, the Gospel of Christ, “is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Rom 1:16). “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). The Spirit of God uses the Word of God to make alive a spiritually dead person. Take note of the importance of the Word. Charismatics today despise and rely, instead, on what they think is the spirit, but it is not of God, for it contradicts the Word.
Dear reader, you will never forget the Word which made you alive. Love the Word which says that you might have life and have it more abundantly. How can you not remember what caused you to know there is life eternal? How can you neglect the words that brought you to the feet of your Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? The words which assure you of salvation that never will be lost. Forget not the Word of Life!
THOUGHT: Am I made alive by the Holy Spirit through God’s Word?
PRAYER: Father, let me not forget Thy Word which gives me life, not only on this earth but even forever more.
