Daniel 1:4-6

STANDING BEFORE THE KING

King Nebuchadnezzar ordered his servant, Ashpenaz, to bring some of the children from Israel to live in his palace. What were they supposed to do? Nebuchadnezzar wanted to make these children true Babylonians to serve in his empire. Their duty was to study the Babylonian language and culture. There were special requirements for choosing them.

The children had to be healthy, well-liked, knowledgeable, and clever. They also had to be mature beyond their age, and know how to present themselves before a king. Not just anyone could come before the king, only those who were chosen. And they couldn’t just come in any way. They had to approach the king respectfully and with good behaviour.

Among those chosen were Daniel and his three friends – Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. They would have the next three years to prepare themselves to stand before the king.

Dear friend, if an earthly king demands such respect and preparation, what more the Almighty God who is King above all kings! When we approach God in prayer, in our QT, or in worship, are our hearts prepared to meet Him reverently? God has chosen you to be one of the privileged few to approach Him!

QUESTION:
Why are you able to approach
the King of kings directly?
Write 1 Peter 3:18.

Thought: I can stand before the King of kings, because Christ suffered for my sins once for all.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of salvation in Christ Jesus that allows me to pray to You directly. Teach me how to pray according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
