LESSONS ABOUT GODLY PEOPLE
The Bible is the Word of God which was written for our learning. It is inspired by the Holy Spirit and records the true life stories of many heroes of faith. These are not meant for our entertainment but to teach us precious lessons of faith and godliness.
Though the heroes of the faith lived long ago, in places and time distant from ours, their life experiences are full of instruction and learning for us. They had trials and sufferings, but also joys and happy days and it is good to learn how they lived a life that pleased God. Certainly, they knew God and walked with Him. They are men like Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Every one of them was tested by God and was found to be faithful. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to follow their godly example and be found faithful like them?
First, we must realise that we would not know anything about them unless we read our Bible. Their lives, including the details of their sins, their marriage and their quarrels are written there. Therefore, the most important thing is to read our Bible carefully, prayerfully, and regularly. Everything written there can help us grow in grace and the knowledge of the Lord. As you read about the life of Joseph this month, you will learn that Joseph was blessed with the great love from his father, Jacob. But at the same time, he faced jealousy and evil deeds done against him by his own brothers as well as strangers he met.
Joseph overcame all his sufferings because God was with him. Never once did Joseph forget God. He trusted God no matter how difficult life was. He continued to hope in God for better days. We should follow his example.

Thought: The lives of the heroes of the faith can teach us much.
Prayer: Heavenly Father help me to learn much from these heroes of the faith. May I also remember that our spiritual life is like a marathon and not a dash race. Help me to keep on trusting in You as I grow. This is my prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.
