Genesis 39:1-6
JOSEPH THE BLESSED SLAVE
Joseph found himself a slave in the house of Potiphar, an important man, for his job was to protect Pharaoh himself. Although Joseph was in Egypt and far from his family, God was with him. This can be seen in the way Joseph conducted himself. He so impressed Potiphar that he was promoted.
How did Joseph serve Potiphar so that even his master knew that the Lord was with him? First, Joseph was very hardworking. Not only did he do his work faithfully and responsibly but he also did it cheerfully. No work was too hard for him. He went to the field to work all day and returned home in the evening to continue to serve his master at the dinner table. He supervised the other slaves and saw to it that they brought in the harvest before it rained, that the cooks serve delicious meals and that the gardens were well trimmed and the plants thriving. Best of all, he treated the others around him with courtesy and with kindness. Joseph was outstanding!
From the time that Joseph was promoted and made overseer or supervisor of all in Potiphar’s house, the Lord blessed the household of this commanding officer. Potiphar became more and more prosperous. The sheep and cattle multiplied till he had thousands of them. The grapes also overflowed so that they could be sold for profit in the market. We are told, "The blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field. " All these came to pass because of the good work of Joseph and of course all the good work was by the grace of God upon Joseph. Joseph was a blessing to the household of Potiphar.
Are you and I a blessing to those around us? May God give us grace to be a blessing to all around us.
Tick some ways in which you have been a blessing to your parents.
1. You obey your parents.
2. You love your siblings.
3. You do your homework without being told.
4. You are a peacemaker among your siblings.
5. You help around the house eg. Getting things for mummy.
6. You clean up and pack up after playing with your toys.
Thought: The best present I can give to my family is to be a blessing to them.
Prayer: Heavenly Father make me a channel of your blessings to those around me. May I learn to be like Joseph and work hard to fulfill my responsibilities, and strive to be a blessing to others! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
